Well, i sold my Scooby, and have bought something sensible for once!
A Passat Sport in black
It looked like this when i got it this afternoon
Then i went straight to wheel base, parted with £500, and it looked like this
Then after 30minutes it looked like this
I think it looks rather tidy and altho not in the subaru league, the build quality and comfort is a welcome change, and it is a really nice car to own
Is this a sign that im getting old perhaps
What do you guys think

Nice ! I just traded my 2002 in. Great cars, nice to drive.
VW paint is lovely to work with if you like waxing.
One thing to look out for, a common problem is puddles under the carpet in the rear footwells. If the car takes an age to de-mist you may well need to check for water ingress from the pollen filter. It is mounted at the top of the runoff resevoir and if the drainage get blocked it comes in through the aircon
Passats are well known for leaks so its a good idea to join.

I bought this car as im renovating a house at the minute, and want to buy another next year, so the scooby had to go, as i needed more of a work horse that i could stack the miles onto
Having said that, i miss it greatly, the acceleration and the sound especially

Speedymonkey - Did vaguely similar - Golf R32 to Vx Astra 150bhp CDTi - Two years later and I'm just about coming to terms with the shock of non speed (although it's not too slow) and a lovely clatter instead of a lovely V6 roar!

If you are servicing it yourself or if you don't bother, you get a warning beep everytime you start it. Its automated but easily reset.
With ignition off you need to press and hold the “wrench” button on the right side of the odometer. Keep the wrench button pressed and turn ignition on. Now press the clock adjusting button once – try with minutes or hours. As soon as you press one of them the “Service Now” will turn off. Release all buttons and take the key out.
This is the water fix should you need it.

speedymonkey, is 4ft 8", so his problem has nothing to do with the car performance, it just wasn't big enough

The handling of the Passat was what put me off it.
I was pretty much set on buying one until I drove one.
Well made, good engine but not the finest handler - but better than the dire Bora "Sport" and Golf 150PD.

Yup. I remember all of them going back to his first car that he had before the days of Carisma. Probably 1997 when I first started reading them but caught a few earlier mags too Retro boy at heart really. The stuff of today just doesnt do it for me anymore.
