Chevvy Corvette 6.0

Chevvy Corvette 6.0
My next door neighbour won a competetion and got one of these for a weekend. He kindly popped around this afternoon and asked if I'd like to go out in it. It's an ugly beast for sure, but the 6.0 V8 has a very imposing rumble.
The actual car was black but looked just like this -

When we got outside he said I could drive it! I have to say that I haven't laughed so hard whilst driving for quite a while. The thing had an autobox and the 400 horse V8 under the bonnet just roared on kickdown . Loud enough to frighten old ladies (and cyclists) in fact Thought the head-up display with the lateral G force meter quite a nice touch and in keeping with the general tackiness of the thing.
He reported that it max'd out at an indicated 295km/h (186mph) on the nearby autobahn. Retail price here is Eur 100k, which is the equivalent of 3 new blobeyes or 2 new Stis. Nowhere near worth it of course.

Ive got a C3 corvette(1978), its got a great roar, just put a new intake manifold(edelbrock rpm airgap), and a new holley 750cfm carb, that now makes it sound really nice!, I have had more peeps interested in this car, than any car ive owned, I would quite happly have a C6 anyday.

Will post a pic of my old C5 tomorrow, tripple black, 18's, active dampers borla quad pipes, vortex intake, modified MAF ... Was a bit of a hand full and the brakes were rubbish but other than that it was really good, even on british b roads. Would take on most cars in a straight line too, very good drag cd.. and 380/380 = 170mph +

I had a ride in a manual C5 with some mods and it was sensational. In Canada, they are very cheap for the performance and would make just about any Scoob look silly, even on the twisty's. Not so sure about the wet though.
The C6 is arguably much better in every sense. Both the C5/Z06 are apparently easy to mod and can cope with much more power.
Also got a ride in a Corvette like davecweed's and it was still an awesome machine. For a 1970's car, it was still in fantastic condition, even mechanically, with everything major still being original. Not fast by modern standards, but still has an awesome sound from its 5.7 V8 that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end, not to mention the awesome low down torque. Also the most beautiful Corvette IMO.
It's a shame that the Corvette is massively overpriced when sold in Europe. If circumstances were right, I'd import a C5/Z06 from Canada (for half the price they go for here in Europe) and use it as a weekend/trackday car. Mechanically they are fairly straightforward, so probably cost less to run than a Scoob.
For the record, the owners of both of the Corvettes I rode in have never driven a car with less than a 3.6 litre engine. They are baffled as to why we drive around in highly tuned 2 litre turbocharged screamers. According to them (if you'll excuse the cliche), "there ain't no substitute for cubic inches"...
