Had the pleasure of driving this last night....
It's a friend's of mine who has had it for a few weeks now and what a motor!!!!
Not just the speed, but the whole experience. Right down to the quirky rods that come out of the door cards to pass you your seat belt when you get in... :-D
It's only got about 900 miles on it, so is still tight. So obviously I wasn't bouncing it off the limiter in every gear, but you certainly get the sense that it will pull upto every single rev the rev limiter allows.
And rev it you need to, to get the full 100% from it (just like the CTR and previuos M3). Not saying it is guttless before hand. But compared to what it goes like after 6500rpm, it's like stepping on a land mine in flipflops...
Handling and steering are in another dimension to the E46 M3. Steering is awesome (only thing that i've driven similar was his old Evo 9). Handling is exeptional, especially for a 1600kg lump of German mental, but with the weather being a little ****e, I wasn't really pushing it anywhere near it's limits.
One thing I did soon realise, is that once you find yourself driving anywhere built up, the 'M' button is best turned off, as it's a little sensitive to say the least... :shock: . But once turned off, it can be very civilised and smooth. :cooldude:
Have I got £57,000 down the back of the sofa for one, I F@#@**@G wish :bigcry: . I did offer to give him £20 a week for it. But after carefull thought and a lot of umming and arrgghhing. He politely told me to go forth and multiply! :-D
Anyway, thought i'd share my thought with you boys and hope you have chance to have a go yourself, as it's a bit nice...
Roll on 4 months time when my old man gets his new M5 (which i'll be insured on :wink: ). I'll let you guys know how that goes...
Ciao for now..

Vtec, the M5 is similar. It likes to be revved hard. The sweet spot is 5k to 8.5rpm where it is ballistic, all 507 horses galloping hard! You'll enjoy driving it (as will your dad!)
I drive in M Mode all the time now, it just takes a bit of getting used to and then you can drive it smoothly even in built up areas.

There is a really good article form the NZ Autocar in the attached link:
RS246.com :: View topic - NZ Autocar: RS4 vs S204 vs FPV Typhoon vs 300C SRT8
BTW when you do get an RS disable to active exhaust valve - the sound is awesome

A nice car but think it has gone a bit soft for an M car, I will be waiting for BMW to release details of the CSL version, then i may be tempted. But then it will cost around 70K which opens up the market to alot more cars!
