M3 50000 mile inspection : £800.. am I being stitched up?
Hi
Local BMW dealer picked up my M3 today for a 52K miles inspection.
They've called me back, and while there are a couple of minor things they've suggested keeping an eye on, its in top notch order.
They've quoted me nearly £800 for the actual inspection. Surely this can't be justified?
Am I being ripped off?

Had an inspection 1 done on my 330CI they quoted me £275, ended up with a bill for £615 and that was without the brake discs and pad they said it needed, rip off imo, wont be using BMW for servicing again!

I've just phoned around, in order to have some ammo to call them back with, and to my great surprise, my price is the cheapest by quite a long way!!
The most expensive was £1100!!!
I now feel like I got a baragin!!

BMW dealers are a law unto themselves, especially when it comes to the S54 unit in your car. I was quoted £180.00 locally for the first oil service which seemed a bit steep and shopped around thinking I'd get it cheaper up north. Surprisingly, the local stealer was the cheapest.

Is it an inspection 1 or 2?......for a 1 that is ludicrous....for a 2 thats about right.
You have to brave to give your car to BMW for servicing....its like giving the greedy buggers a blank cheque....for which they will unleash spotty Wayne, the YTS boy, on your beloved car!

Lets look at it another way.
How many british and Jap 15-20 year old performance cars are still going strong?
Plenty of old BMW and Porsches still going strong at track days and the ring etc.
Now it could be that they are just better built, but I'd suspect it has a lot to do with the servicing that receive and the attention to detail the technicians work to.

As for Jap cars, there are loads still living on into their twenties! I think BMs are better built though....

in comparison
my experience of bmw motorrad has been second to none...efficient, can't help enough and not that expensive. To date I've only ever really recieved average service at best from all the bm car dealers over the years. They used to be good and in line with expectations (My dad has always had beemers years ago) now they charge premium car rates for very average service.

If you do question if it's justified then they may double the price with no reasoned explanation other than to patronisingly call you 'pathetic', 'irritating' and to 'grow up'.
They will then tell you that the majority of BMW customers are absolutely delighted with the cost of their servicing and are actually bringing their cars in ahead of schedule.
