Question volvo V40 turbo help

Have a 1.9 diesel of above, at 2.5-3k revs it seems to lurch a small bit. you don't notice a loss of power but feel it and sometimes you get a belch of smoke during the process. Power on over this and its fine??
Any ideas

How recently has it been serviced? Could be as little as a fuel filter, injector or sensor maybe. I would have the fault code's read and take it from there.
