New RS4 understeer..!
Just how much does the new RS4
(avant) understeer..?
Had one behind me (trying
) and the understeer looked horrendous, especially under power..!
Also, how does the weight of the avant compare to the saloon..?
Looked and sounded awsome as always..!

The new RS4 is one of the best balanced cars in it's class. The avant weighs in at 1710 kgs which isn't horrendously heavy tbh. Understeer is minimal, turn in razor sharp and traction out of a bend phenomenal. The Rs is a very capable car.

They do sound and look awesome and yes I'd bite someones arm off if I had the chance (in bright blue thanks)..!

BTW, What's the weight of the new M3 (400bhp) reported to be..?
Perhaps that will be the preserve of the new RS6? I can't see the new M3 being significantly quicker than the RS4 but I'll wait and see what the Autocar test figures it at. Be surprised if it makes single figures though
Revs to 8,400
Removes Top Speed Limiter
Transforms the car apparently - quicker smoother.
I also believe they get quicker as you put more miles on it.
He's just bought it so I doubt if modding is on the agenda just yet. Just enjoy the car for now Rob.

Managed to get a couple of hours yesterday to give the RS a proper test.
Regarding understeer, if the Avant suffers from it the saloon doesn't. I've come from a T25 suspension spec’ed STI which handled
(as Maz will no doubt agree
)so the RS4 was always going to be up against it when comparing but it does very well.
It has plenty of grip (as you would hope/expect with the Quattro technology) and handles superbly given it is carrying an extra 300ish kgs in weight. Although the steering weighting takes some getting used to once you do you soon become very confident about sticking into the corners and the car feels very balanced given the size of the engine up front. General ride quality is spot on - firm but not too hard.
In terms of engine performance it is a completed different sensation to my old STI. The car has much more low down torque so you don’t need to change gear anywhere near as much though you loose some of the ‘I’m being shoved into the boot!’ feeling when the turbo kicked in as part of the trade off
. Power delivery is very smooth and the car is equally happy cruising or gunning it. Either way the sound of the V8 is to die for and is quickly becoming my favourite engine note (especially at 8,000rpm in 3rd
) and take it from me these cars are not slow! It is also very good on petrol consumption all things considered.
Build quality is excellent and the cabin is one of the nicest I have ever seen. I was picked up in a new M5 on the day I got the car and I couldn’t get over how pants the interior was – it is identical to a 525D only you get some really cheap looking silver plastic thrown in for good measure.
The RS oozes class with real carbon fibre all over the place; it has more toys than you know what to do with and also has the best seats I have ever sat in.
To say I am as happy as a pig in s*ht would be a slight understatement

When you go up against a remapped 335d you will realise you have bought the wrong car
