Hi all, after finnally selling my car after 2 months im considering living my dream and getting an Evo, problem being is im just a home owner and am thinking perhaps its still not the right time to get one.

Have seen the prices of S4's drop recently and could afford one easier than an evo, my question is that are they as much fun as an Evo???.... They look like a Q car but am worried i just wont enjoy the whole 4wd experiance as much as owning an Evo.

Any tips would be appriciated

I've just sold my scoob and am looking at S4s. I need the space so am looking at Avants.

In standard form I'm not sure I'd want to get chasing after a EVO5/6 but with some suspension mods (I've been advised H&R bars and RS4 shocks) and mapping, it should give an EVO a run for its money.

But then, if I wanted to continue in the frantic, rally inspired, pops and bangs brigade, I wouldn't consider an S4 and might consider turning to the dark side

Having driven both, I would say the S4 is not as sharp or focused as the EVO as you would expect, however, these comments above are true. Some minor H&R ARBs and it improves the whole set-up. Don't believe the typical hype that these cars don't handle, they do - very well - out of the box. (Faster round TG track than M3)

The whole ownership experience should be better though:-
Build quality
Q-car looks
Sound from V8

You won't enjoy it anywhere as near as much. The steering is sterile, it feels heavy and viod of any road feel back. Plus when it goes wrong Plus points are it's very well built and with the right wheels on the Avant looks good, the saloon is just plain ugly, superb long distance driver but not a grin factor. Took my father in laws S4 Avant to Valencia for him last year. Superb on the motorways and comfy, but not really chuckable fun. And there it is..COMFY.. There isn't enough in the package as a whole really.

Which S4 are you talking about?

The new V8 or the older 2.7 Bi-turbo?

For 5k of mods you can have the Bi-turbo pushing 400bhp.

S4
I own a tommi mak evo 6 and have driven the S4. 2 totally different car's mate. The evo is raw and focused and the S4 is smooth and has luxury! S4 speed wise I'd say it's about the same as my old blobeye STi running 280bhp +. My evo's 360bhp and again in a different legue to the scooby. The S3's a nice car tho. go have a test drive only you can decide for sure.

Hate 'test' driving cars without the total intention of buying it! sounds dumb i know but i dont like letting people down....Shame i dont know anybody with an evo6, got a friend wiv a evo 8 but its broke :-(

I really need a propper boiling hot car, had too many luke warm motors like my clio williams which i found so dull it was untrue!
