Thinking of swaping SWMBO's Fabia vRS for a Leon TDi, but having viewed a couple I'm a little confused as to the differences between the two. I always thought the Cupra got some bodykit, Brembo's, 6sp 'box and better suspension parts, but I've seen some FR's advertised with 6sp and Brembo's
Anyone give me a definitive breakdown ?

You won't get Brembo's on the FR mate..
Right, here goes...
Basically, the FR and Cupra on the Mk1 Leon are the same thing. What happened was Seat had to drop the 'Cupra R' brand name, as Honda were not happy with it being similar to Type R. So, the Cupra R became the Cupra and the Cupra became the FR..
The Mk2 Leon in FR form, comes with either the 2.0 TFSI Petrol engine (200bhp) OR a 2.0 TDI (170bhp).
The Cupra has the 2.0 TFSI engine also, but with a more hearty 237bhp..
The Mk1 Leon FR had either 180bhp 1.8T petrol or 150bhp (160bhp on laters models) 1.9TDI unit.. Cupra R 225bhp 1.8T (210bhp on earlier models)..
Hope you're still with me and hope that answers your question...

Mk1 Leon FR never came with the 160bhp TDI unit from the Ibiza cupra, only the 150bhp unit.
While you don't get Bembo's on any of the models as standard. The Leon Cupra and Ibiza Cupra both have far better brakes to the FR and lesser models. They come equipped with Seat Sport brakes, can remember if they are 4 pots on the front or 2. But the little Ibiza brakes like a fly hitting the windscreen it is incredible braking far superior my STI!

I don't think we can stretch to a mk.2 Cupra. The Furby is probably worth £9k or so and we don't want to add much more to get the Leon. Other cars in the mix are an A3 5 door or A4 Avant, and the Octavia vRS TDi.

Been out for a look at a few cars today and she started out saying she would rather have the power of an older Cupra TDi than the style of a Mk.2 with a lesser engine. Two minutes sat in a 140PS Mk.2 TDi and she changed her mind
Off to troll AT now and see what I can find for £11k or so.

Just notice that we can have the same engine in the Octavia for the same or slightly less money. Bootspace is the primary reason to change, and the Octy kills the Leon dead on that. Love the Leon's looks over the bland saloon, but the decision has to be more head than heart. Off to look on Jabba's site to see what power we could get

Yup, just checked, Furby (current car) 260 litres, Leon 340, Octy 560. Jabba aren't listing anything for the PD140, but based on what is achievable on the 130 and 150's we could be looking at 205bhp and 320 torques. That'll do for now.
