Not owned one but only what i've read.
The mags raved about them - ok not as sharp or as quick aqs a newage STI or Classic for that matter but they're not meant to be.
having said that no slouch either, one came past me once and i swear it had sports exhausts on, it sounded bloody fantastic

My old one:
Seriously good car - I tested all the "competition" and this was way ahead.
Great handling, brakes and grip but also very nice to sit in - the interior is still one of the best I've sat in.
The noise is the best part though - it has been called a "junior" Carrera 4 and I'm not going to disagree with that!
It must have a VW v6364 ECU upgrade or you'll get a really annoying engines hesitation at about 2.5k revs and many put a Miltek exhaust on to cure a "boomy" noise at about the same rpm.
The full leather is debated to be "leatherette" and can get knackered quite quickly and I had to have a few squeaks and rattles sorted.
Other than that, it's a superb motor and 300bhp is only £2k away if you want it - Ignore lardy comments - It weighs almost the same as the latest Focus ST and way less than a 330i.

I tested the A3 3.2 and it was worlds apart - too rolly, very muted engine noise and dull steering. It's quick but just not much fun.
Du - I was forced to sell it! Bought it when in the Docklands and loved it, then moved to Clifton, Bristol - Car got done over twice (£3k in damage), couldn't find a garage to rent (I tried!) so decided it had to go.
I replaced it with the rather uninteresting mk5 Astra - needed an invisible car that was still okay to drive and still got it. Been a lot better than I thought but I miss the Golf - now have the most secure parking ever (in the middle of nowhere in Cornwall!) so plotting something else quick again.

Try to get one that has had the brakes replaced recently as these cost a fortune to do (the fronts are 334mm!). The 3.2 V6 is simply the best to listen to. They really are awesome and were / are much more highly rated than some seem to think. They will outrun standard WRX's to a ton (where able to do so) and are fully kitted out with toys. Not much room in the boot due to the rear diff' and no spare wheel, you do get a repair kit and compressor though. Buy one, buy one, buy one!

Friends are wispering Subaru in my ear allot trying to get me back in the fold but I fancy a change as I had an STI for three years.
Considered BMW but to get what I want I need to spend 25k+ on one which I dont want to do.
Test drove a Focus RS too but I dont think I'll be going down that road.

A Focus ST is a superb car but only FWD (although it is good)
is you want AWD and a luxury interior then either the Audi or the Golf is the way to go.

Leather was an extra - You can get cloth (very few have that) or Alcantara (sp?!) too - Get leather and cruise if you can and if you're really lucky, try and get a sunroof.
The Satnav is a bit lame (I didn't have it) but the overall kit is good - 6 CD changer in the dash (always wondered where the CDs go when stacked!), Xenons, climate control and a wickedly minimalist but functional dash.
The Focus RS goes like stink but is hard work and torque steers a lot - Over 200bhp = RWD or 4WD is my "rulebook"
MPG isn't bad for such a big engine - I usually got mid 20s.
There's also something magic about telling the ill informed that your hatchback has a 3.2 litre V6!

If you're a sad git like me, check the sound samples of the R32 here - whack up the sound and think to yourself - "that noise can be MINE for about £14k!"

Nah! I wish mate. Sold the R32 and replaced it with the STi PPP like so:
Must say the STi is awesome to, it is actually more practical given I play golf so need space for the gear in the boot. Only downside on the scooby is stopping every other day for fuel, but who cares
Like Matt said you'll get mid twenties with the golf and it is a geniune Q car, most people don't believe you when you tell them your golf has a 3.2lt V6 under the bonnet
Post pic's when you get it.

The VR6 is a great engine. Before Scoob ownership I had a VR6 Corrado, which is the 2-valve 2.9 predecesser of the R32. Induction kit and standard zorst worked well on that - whisper quiet when taking it easy, and mini-TVR roar when booted.
