Accord Type-R thread hasn't been around for a while.
I am looking for a commuter - I previously had for a very short period a slightly tatty Golf Mk3 1.9D. I got on ok with the car, but they are painfully slow and it looked more of a heap than I really wanted, so I got rid.
My previous commuter was a Volvo 850 T5 - great car overall but 20mpg and HUGE proportions meant it was time to move on. I had that car for a good 6 months though
So - I fancied combining the 2, as in luxury at the touch of a button with reasonable economy and dinky proportions. Mix it with a little MINT CONDITION and hey presto a low mileage 16v Golf mk3 5 door. Sadly they are hard to find nice one's with low miles with the 16v engine, but adding aircon and my favourite colour has made it too difficult.
So back to the drawing board I went and came up with the Accord Type-R. Smaller than the Volvo, newer than both and a MK3 16v, 4 door.... We already have a Honda Odyssey, which is a great car, albeit juicy, so I am happy enough with the Honda bit.
So anything I need to know about these cars?

Quite a big step up from a mk3 16V (I had one for three years, at one point my Mum and Dad had one at the same time too as seen in Volkswagen Driver!!) to an ATR!!
Great cars and well loved by the motoring press - I like them a lot.
