Practical replacement for STi PPP? Help!!!
Right guys, i need a bit of help. I need a car for around 8 grand, delivers fairly good mpg, but is also good fun to drive and fairly quick. I'm not badge concious, but its got to look ok, I quite like the Cupra R. Any ideas?
I've had my Sti7 PPP for about 6 months now, and there car is the nuts in every way, except the petrol costs are killing me! I have a 56mile round trip to work, and a £50 tankful is only seeing me do 200 miles!
Cheers, Steve

keep the scoob, buy a crappy little corsa deisel or somthing to get to work. best of both toy for the weekend (cost of insurance etc should go down cos of lower milage, not used for work). then run the corsa into the ground and replace it when it breaks. jobs a goodun

Spen - Being the dullard I am, I checked the mpg with aircon on and off - 4mpg difference!
I think the 120 and 150 get very similar mpg.
Astra currently in for servicing - Two new tyres (£140 each) new disks and pads (£150ish) and all the rest. About to get the total but likely to be a nice fat £500 minimum - Ouch!

if you need good MPG's then an audi A4 2.5td or 1.9td will do the job, it'll be a bit bland to drive, but is well built and reliable, or the bmw330d would be my choice, but you wouldn't get a nice one with respectable mileage for 8k, although you will get a 320d.

Honda Integra DC5
just saw the 8K bit. A DC2 then, even better! A bit raw for long journeys on a daily basis but 35MPG is not difficult and they are great fun to drive

Get yourself a 150 TDI golf. You'll get a nice one for about 8k,then get a revo remap and see 200 BHP & 300lb per ft for about 450 quid and no change in your fuel consumpion at all unless of corse you keep on booting it.Wont be as quick as your scoob but i think it would be a very good replacment.

Was going to say Golf TDi 150bhp but been beaten to it.Brothers got one with one of them plug in chip things giving 180bhp and it flies and still returns over 50mpg no lag either.Should get a really good one for £8k.

LCR is a good idea coz you'll still have turbo power so it'll feel quicker than N/A. You'll appreciate that as you're dropping a level.
I was gonna say Civic TypeR until I'd thought about that
Struggling to think of anything else really thats going to be any better on juice than yours
Just how much better are we talking And how much do you really wanna spend??? I take it you'd like your car to p/ex ideally and you get a couple of grand back but how much would be ideal?
I know you don't want diesel, no matter how good an idea it is

Wouldn't it be cheaper like mentioned above to get a cheap run around for work and still keep the sti. I have the same problem as i own the 2.5 WRX and thats not much better with a 60m round trip six days a week to work...... If you get rid of it you will regret it and miss the driving experience............

225/45 17" Sport Contact 2s and they were actually £130 in the end but the service was £707!! New front disks (310mm so pricey), pads and all sorts - OUCH
Roymart - I tested the Golf 150PD before I got the Astra and it was one of the worst handling cars I have EVER driven plus it's got tiny tiny brakes.
No way. Astra at least handles well and they are starting to come on the market for peanuts.

WRX PPP - I have a 120 mile round trip everyday - like you I was struggling to get 200 miles from a tank in JDM STi (albeit with API 350 re-map) - moved over to WRX PPP and now get close to 300 miles per tank.
The WRX is a much better vehicle for the commute anyway - I arrive with my spine in one piece nowadays.
If you like the scoob then stick with the brand!
