Default New JDM Civic Type-R

What do you guys think of the new JDM Civic Type-R ? which is a saloon and looks nothing like our poorer European version.

The bullet points that got me interested :-
  • 0-60mph times around 5 seconds and a top speed of over 150mph
  • A full second faster around the famous Tsukuba circuit than the previous Integra Type-R and within a second of the NSX’s lap record
  • Brembos all round and a LSD
Would just love that in say blue or silver with the grey alloys.......I bet you wouldn't see many on the roads here

Just got to find myself £24k from somewhere..........

Info is here :-

Saw this last week and I like it - personally think would look good in black with the 1/2 red / black interior ! Good Q car as most people would not know what it was !
Bit pricey though !

Newera will do you one for a tad over £19k landed. Though of course they do not do finance. Still a bit of a saving.

Wrong, there is nothing wrong with 'silly' high powered FWD cars, my DC5 is running over 250 and it is fine, I'm just stating that it will not reach 60 in 5 due to lack of traction.

any sign of damp/wet roads u are going to get wheel spin!, true?

if there is nothing wrong with high powered fwd cars, then why arent all the supercar makers, producing fwd supercars??

Think about dude!

A sorted 200hp FWD car is more fun than the average 350hp 4wd car.

.

Audilover - Please point out an 'average' 350BHP 4wd car, not seen one myself

a well driven 350bhp 4wd car would be a more interesting and rewarding a drive over a 200bhp fwd car!

Having driven a variety of rwd/fwd and 4wd cars including some hypercars, above 250bhp+ through the front wheels is an exercise in futility unless you are an incredible driver - which most people are not!

Honda have produced a 1.6 FWD car (funnily enough a Civic) that'll do 0-60 in 5secs so don't see why this should be any different.

I have had two civic VTI's a 1.6 and a 1.8 and both great cars and with excellent handling BTW

Paul he is referring to the EK9 civic type r, which Honda claimed would do 0-60 in 5.7 secs from its 185ps 1.6 engine.

I'd settle for sub 6.0 tbh 5.9 will do easily pleased me.....

I think it looks less garish than the UK Civic Type-R hatch and if it wasn't quite so pricey I would def consider one cos its going to be more "exclusive" than most of the models on the road.

Like the idea of people seeing the Honda badge which they recognise but following it with a "What the hell is that ?"

Supercar markers perfer RWD, not front or 4, hence Honda went rear for their NSX, plus with a LSP things are not too bad in the wet, as long as you are easy on the throttle, again you have to show so called 'supercars' respect in the wet, so what was you point again?

you are asking the front wheels to steer and power the car, your asking to much, thats why they understeer like hell, u only need watch topgear to see that, with vxr astra and vxr vectra, and others

wake up dude, and smell the rose's!

Id rather drive about enthusiastically in a well engineered fwd hot hatch on public roads than say a 320hp EVO.

Quite frankly its too dangerous and rather stupid anyway to be able to push a monster like the evo to its limits without being a great risk to the general public.

On the racetrack I will take the Evo though anyday.

My DC5 does not understeer like hell, in fact it drives rather well, you just need to apply the power a bit more slowly, like you would in a high powered RWD car, otherwise you would be smelling the roses.

Dave, I think people latched onto the Top Gear "220 bhp is the limit for FWD" and took it as gospel.

When you have a car with as well sorted a chassis and LSD as a DC2 or DC5, they dont torque steer and they can easily cope with more power. They have very good LSD's which a lot of FWD cars dont have (such as the CTR)

I think you have to drive one rather than go off people's opinions...

Or we best go tell all those TOCA boys their cars are driven by the worng set of wheels!

You can get away with decent power through the front wheels, of course may not be ideal. But you can do it and get control. Of course one of the advantages of the N/A Hondas is the fact that you are not strugling with the torque you'd get with a blown FWD car.

It is the torque that kills the drivability of cars such as the VXR and GTA say, at least for ordinary mortals like me.

I do agree 5 secs is a tad optamistic with the specs of that car however, even with the close gearing it is bound to have.

Out of interest I managed a 5.65 to 60 at brunters with J Tuner mag on a group thrash with my CTR, and it had a fair chunk more BHP than the new JDM car. Around 260. Though 'only' having 169lbs of torque helped with the controlability. That was when I was running a 4psi Jackson kit.

I am now back to all motor and am still getting 238 break and 171lbs. Though the torque band is narrower. I am going to Brunters again this Friday, be interesting to see how she compares.

Should do well m8. I have had my Clio timed at 5.39 0-60 with std tyres and at the time high 180`s bhp. Only rear seats removed. If you have a lot of power surely using a bit of throttle control would help...just cause you might have silly power doesn't mean you have to use it all when setting off?

Like this 240bhp Citroen AX that pisses all over the Evo at Knockhill? I don't spot much understeer or wheelspin in this vid.

YouTube - AXO16V @ Knockhill

Set a FWD car up properly and it can match anything.

that proofs nothing dude!, the guy in the evo could be a slower driver, plus the the track was dry, if it was a wet track the evo would have pissed all over that saxo, if u put a good driver behind the wheel
