It isn't just about all out power or traction. He would be able to break later, hold more speed through most of the bends and would be better in quick direction changes unless the evo was very powerful

Ax at std 708kgs with 240 bhp is about 340bhp per ton....std evo weight (evo 5 I think in the vid) would need 450bhp + to get the same power to weight so the extra traction out of bends wouldn't count for much and you would struggle to catch the AX.....but as said in the wet it would be a bit easier for the Evo

Here you go

YouTube - AXO16V vs Skyline=

The same car taking a Skyline, in the wet, uphill. By the way its a supercharged Citroen AX with 240bhp weighing 630kg, not a Saxo.

Have you ever heard of an LSD?

The car belongs to TAM - a pretty handy drivers as well as a bit of a nutter
Shame I never got to pitch my 300bhp turbo'd AX against him.

Mmm the Skyline looks like he was caught behind the other and possibly chose not to overtake, not say the Ax isn't very quick, it more than likly is quicker than the skyline, but just watching a bit of video like that really doen't show anything tbh.. there are too many variables, slow driver, not wanting to push at that time and all the other things... if yo watch video of me on track following subaru's about it looks like they are doing ok and that they are as quick but in reality they'd be way way behind...

My point is not about the AX being quicker than either the Evo or Skyline, just that high power FWD cars when properly setup can just be as quick as anything else, including 4WD.

They are more fun as well.

Yeah, I am with the others on this, look like a carefully driven Skyline against a guy in an AX with nothing to lose!
He looks like he closes on a Corsa under braking!

But I agree, a well sorted FWD car can be just as quick on TIGHT roads. I had loads of fun chasing a friend's EVO 7 in my Clio 172 a few years back. As long as he didn't get a free straight run I was all over him!

No...can't accept that. Must be the same driver at the exact same time/conditions/amount of food in his gut before you will be believed

If you like the look of that honda civic then there is a good chance you will love its bigger brother - Civic Mugen Dominator.. With a 300bhp supercharged lump im sure it will be entertaining !! haha.

Cheers - Andy

They know that already . RWD (BMW) and 4WD (Audi) was pretty much penalty-weighted out of existance as otherwise they'd romp away from the rest of the field (as indeed they did).

FWD is all about packaging, i.e. cost. Nothing more, nothing less (although the safety element of understeer vs oversteer may get trotted out sometimes).

I'm not saying you can't have a decent fwd setup, however it's fundamentally flawed when compared to decent rwd and 4wd.

Next!
