Volkswagen Passat TDI 130 Sport
#7
Have run mine from new for 4 years and 55K miles.
A great family car -- big interior, comfy, climate, 6 CD, all the toys.
Great on m/ways and A-roads, the hi-torque motor fits really well with the 6-speed box, you've got instant grunt at any speed up to and beyond 100mph.
I have averaged 46mpg (genuine, not from the computer) since new. My worst ever tankful is 39mpg (mid winter, short trips), best ever is 52mpg (all m-way).
Nothing's gone wrong, although I fell foul of the well-known suspension ball joint issue at the 2nd MOT.
The handling is "safe", it goes roughly where you point it and doesn't torque steer much.
As dunk said, if you want an extremely efficient mile-muncher and family barge, it's brilliant.
If you want better handling in a similar package, a Mondeo TDCi does that.
