Idiots guide to car importing?
I've spent the last couple of days trying to get my head around the car importation rules and am a little lost. Anyone know of a real idiots guide explaining the requirements when they get into this country? More along the lines of MOT/SVA/ESVA?
What I've read so far seems to be a little contradictory with regards to the 10 year rule and SVA/ESVA? Saying that a car over 10 years old only needs an MOT, yet any car built after 1997 needs a model report (ESVA??). Seeing as I'm not looking at your usually imported DC5's and Evo's - I think I'm going to be out of luck.

Over 10 years old you need an MOT a customs form and a certificate of de-registration. Under 10 years old and you need the above plus an E-SVA certificate, which entails the use of a model report. No model report then no registration until its 10yrs old.
There are some honest ways around the above, but they really arent worth it, unless youre talking about scores of vehicles and a lot of money...
