Fantastic, I was following rallying in the early 80's and remember those things well ....but when you look at the videos you realise why the banned them, not really because of the cars but the crowds....some of those guys are mad, no wonder it all went bad

Is there anywhere you can download these type of vids? I hate youtube, the video quality is always very poor.

Those cars, especially the short quattros, were as mad as a box of frogs You have to admit, they did contribute a fair bit to their own downfall

It's a shame the WRC's gone all playstation really You can't beat the sight of a barely under control rally car, hurtling fully sideways into and through a proper corner

It may have looked like a breadvan, but it was one heck of a quick car!

I seem to remember the official reason they were banned is that The cars were "too quick" for the drivers, basically if it all went **** up, the accident had already happened before the driver did anything about it!
But the crowds were a lot to blame, Portugal had got to be the worst,
It was a great era though and i'm glad I was around to see it!

That's why the bread is still warm when it reaches your table in Italian restaurants

A member of my family worked for the Austin Rover team through the 1986 season. He told me that he believed the real reason it was banned is because it was starting to become more popular than F1, and the powers that be weren't having that!

And seeing as there's a thread on grp b, I see that as an excuse to post some pics of my dad's old car that he managed to get off of the team in 1986 :
