Default Astra CDTi 888

Anyone got one of these? Sorely tempted to defect from the world of Scooby. And this is tempting me real bad. Anyone got any opinions? Other than its a fast diesel. or should i just keep the STi and be done with it?

Cheers

Al

I have a cdti 150 with a dtuk tuning box this gives 195bhp and 300lbs/ft torque. You will not regret it...These things fly! No good at the traffic light grand prix...Spin the wheels through 1st and 2nd . but once rolling.......30-50 in third 3 secs. 40-60 in fourth 4 secs and it's even better at motorway speeds it flys from 70 to ***mph, and my last tank of oil averaged 47.8 mpg Insurance £265.00 car tax £135 I have slated diesels for years especially on here.. I hold my hand up and eat humble pie.

nice one. I must admit i am very tempted. The prospect of having a 200bhp/300lbs ft car which returns 40-45 mpg is highly attractive. Dont care if its a oil burner. I'm sure it would be awesome to surprise quite a few people too.

Is it fairly quiet once yer up and running then? How about the ride quality? Altho saying that, the 888 has sports suspension malarky.

Mine has 18's on. in sport mode (this sharpens throttle response, steering, brakes, and suspension) it handles very well. The esp is very discreet and it will allow a lot of wheelspin before it kicks in. After years of scoobs, evo's, etc, I really am impressed with the whole diesel thing. And tomorrow the cars going in for free cruise control fitted.......which is nice...

LOL.......I'm only telling it like it is mate...You won't be disappointed, and the way this lot (government) is going no one will be able to afford to run a scoob/evo soon.

Well it's supposed to be but haggle hard.

Ours is well over £18k list, we got it for under £16k (150PS Design Estate - Half leather seats, all sorts of extras and lowered with bigger brakes and 17" alloys as standard)

Not half as pretty but it looks okay and has been superb at doing it's job.

**** - I thought I got a good deal. Mines was brand new - Was yours?

Sounds like the 888 is worth the money - Suspension and brakes all get well modded but it's easily possible to do the engine mods alone at somewhere like Courtney.

I'm seriously considering it.

yeah I've read all the parts fitted to the 888 can be retro fitted to a normal CDTI Astra.
Hmmm, this 888 has got me thinking...

Evo likes the 888 rather a lot and they generally hate diesels!

No mate mine is a one owner 6k miles. Don't bother with a remap, get a dtuk tuning box. Fitted in 30 secs, 195/300. Easy as 1.2.3.

just got an insurance quote for the 888, £755 fully comp. I'm 26 with no ponts, convictions, garaged, and 8,000 miles a year. Ouch!
Thats more than my STI Type R!

Ouch!
My insurance is virtually free on my Astra - Admittedly I'm an old git (31) and it's less powerful but it's a similar sort of car.
Must be because it's kind of bespoke?

for a normal Astra CDTI I was £183 fully comp

I live in a very good area so my insurance quotes are always dirt cheap. Audi RS4 fully comp for £350 anyone

I just watched the 5th gear clip with the 888 v's VXR - bit of a no brainer really, I would go for the oil burner given the choice.

You must either be 142 years old, or live on a mountain in Scotland!

I'm in a place that's never had a single crime committed on it's soil (five acres of totally hemmed in land, invisible from the road) that could be called VERY safe, yet I pay a fair bit more than that - Aged 31, IAM pass (lowers it a bit), 4 years NCB, no points, etc!!

Superdan - Alfa use it too but weirdly the Saab and Alfa versions have less torque and are quite a bit slower. Guess they are heavier?
