RS200 group B rally car look a like from about 1996 if I recall correctly. Just about to rescue Ford from the rallying doldrums when GpB was banned for being too stupidly quick and dangerous.
I'd hesistate to call it a replica though as the orginal was 2 seater mid engined with a tranverse turbo'd BDG engine. Fitting a front engined in line engine and 4 seats is a slight difference.
Quite pretty though.

RS200 was always my dream car, i got taken out in a Group B car with 450ish BHP when my old man was working for Fords.
I was only 15 and still grin at the memory now, it was round the test track they used to use at Boreham in Essex, to this day i've never been in anything as quick or anything that went round corners so quick.
Not sure if it was the exact car that Clarkson crashed but it was a similiar time.

The RS200 was the only GpB car manufactured to meet Type Approval, and was sold through normal dealerships as a road car.
The Type Approval meant crash tests had to be carried out, and there's an extra set of rear lights underneath the engine cover in case it blew off!!
Also interesting that most GpB cars of this era had selectable 4WD or RWD drivetrains. It was considered that 4WD would be slower on tarmac than RWD.....needless to say, none of the cars were ever driven in RWD mode on the stages.

My mum bought an ex demo Escort popular from OMC in Macclesfield in 1988. When she went to collect the car I went along - in the showroom was a RS200 that I blagged a sit in! I also had a go on an arcade game they had set up in the show room. It was formula one, based inside an XR2 with a 180 degree cinema screen. Totally surreal just thinking about it.
The Escort turned out to be a good car though

The engines were indeed transverse, behind the LH seat if memory serves. Due to damper overheating problems, They also had twin coilovers at the rear, not the single one shown in that photo.
If I was to guess I'd say the one in that photo has been modded for rallycross or hillclimbing, probably an attempt to overcome what was a terrifying (and borderline lethal) side effect of the big power, turbocharged, transverse mid-engined group B cars. If you even slightly lifted of the throttle whilst the car was airborne (which happens quite often in rallying) the engine would shut down and the gyroscope effect would cause the whole car to rotate about the crank axis, aiming it's nose at the ground

The engine in the RS200 was not tranverse and the reason that you are only seeing one damper is because of the photo angle in that pic. That is the front damper behind which is a cross member that runs behind the oil header tank. The second damper is behind the cross member.
I used to own one and scared myself sh!tless in it at the Nurburgring.
Checkout the pics at Ford RS 200 Information. Click on car listed as chassis number 124 and then click the page of the article linked from Fast ford there it lists the engine spec as longitudinally mounted

I remember going up the M6 years ago, a long column of them went past the other way with a police escort nr stafford so I've always assumed they were coming from the reliant factory where the bodies were made.

Rsquire is definately right on this one (can provide a Ford supplied cut-away drawing for proof if required).
As for value, it depends on state of car and what spec. Base Road cars have the least value, then the motorsport versions go for more (they had the 2wd/4wd switchable gearbox), and the most valuable is the RS200E, which if memory serves me right, only 4 were ever produced.

Isn't this kit just as bad as the Ferrari "replicas" for MR2s/Fieros?
What an abomination.
There are some very good replica kits of RS200s out there, god knows what would make someone do that.
May as well make it based on a Saxo/Nova or any other common car
