Could I get away with owning an Audi TT..
.. and not looking like a total *******?
I've never been a fan of the TT as it's always appeared to me to been the reserve of the poser rather than the driving enthusiast, but with prices as they are, there's some bargains to be had.
TBH, i've never even sat in one, never mind driven one, so have no idea what they're like, but the image has/still does (to some extent) put me off.
However, i'm getting a bit bored of my classic scoob and wouldn't mind something that's not as much of a workout to drive, but I still want to be entertained, and I'm starting to wonder whether the TT fits the bill .
I'd like a 3.2 V6, but my budget isn't likely to stretch that far, so it'll more than likely be a 1.8T (225 bhp only).
Does anyone have any experiences/thoughts on these?
Also, I know there's plenty of scope for power increases with the VAG turbo engine, but how tunable are these engines in terms of £££ per BHP?
Cheers

I was once considering a TT before the Scoob due to the higher spec levels.
There is a huge (and serious) modding community out there. I spent a while on their forums, reading posts etc they didn't appear like ******** to me.
The scoob is more tunable than the TT but that doesn't meen to say that you could not achieve a real fun car which has a bit more comfort to it than the Jap Crap we currently drive.
Personally I would go for a 225 turbo as it's relatively cheap to get above 300bhp whilst with the V6 you don't have many reasonably priced tuning options.
The downside of TT ownership as there are far too many female drivers of the car....

I took a 225 TT for a test and was impressed. It had enough guts to let you be a lazy driver if you wanted, pulling from 6th was no problem on the motorway, but it you were a bit more enthusiastic it also performed well.
Dealer was stiffing me on trade in so didn't go for it in the end.
S3 is a good alernative but not quite as "designer" on the inside. I've been looking lately and there are deals to be found. (Although finding one where there hasn't been a phone holder screwed to the dash somewhere is proving tricky!!).
I just missed out on one which looked a treat and had already had the base mods like revo, suspension and wheels. It's off the dealer website but was 51, 48k miles and 12 grand.

The new model is a MUCH nicer looking car (IMHO) - could never get to grips with the jelly mould styling of the old TT
Engines are good though

They certainly are a bargain, do you really give a **** about what other people think about you?

I must say I was always a bit put off by the image but they have grown on me, just sit in one, then sit in a Scoob and you will see the point, i.e. why a lot of people will buy a TT instead.
It may be a bit dull to drive in comparison but you have to weigh up all the strengths and weaknesses of both.
I think as they get older the poser image will subside as the modders get into them.

Jabbasport/Revo/APR/CC all offer remaps for around the £500-£550 mark.
This will take your TT to 265-270bhp and 300lbft.
Add exhaust sysytem/filter and then around 280-285bhp.
You get stuck at that point really as you are maxxing out the ko4 turbo. If you want to go higher jabbasport offer the IHI VF34 conversion that will set you back around £4500 but will give you 340bhp
Dont get the V6, a remapped 1.8T will wipe the floor with it.

I had a modified TT for 18 months before my current scooby.....only changed it as our second little one is due in March and needed a sensible 4 door family saloon (hence the impreza )
VERY under-rated car in my opinion.
Any questions just fire away.

To be honest, they're a really nice car but you'll always run the risk of people asking where your scissors are.

I drive one regually and go out in the same one weekly as my mates owns one, basically the girls love it as its a convertable with 19" rims, i dont find it kneck breaking fast although its a 225 with remap, handles nicely and especially good in the wet!
Think any scooby will win in a straight line dual!

My mates one eats tyres as it sits on 19" plus its got mega low accomodating suspension, AFM went due to aftermarket induction kit coming off and just servicing to be honest. It likes a drink of fuel though!

TT's are great and Revo makes a massive difference, but the steering is dead and the stanard suspension is hopeless if the road isn't smooth. I've never driven a 3.2 v6 that was any faster than the 225. Watch out as there are lots of imports that aren't Quattro.

does the new Audi TT weigh much ?
with a remap to 260bhp, the power : weight ratio must be decent ?
I miss my turbo'd scooby. Perhaps the new TT is my answer too, to get the turbo "punch", the AWD, but a bit more refinement in the cabin, not to mention a good looking car. I saw the new TT in the flesh recently and was well impressed compared to the old shape.
