Bored with my porker
I hate to say it - but I am bored with my 996 Turbo.
Had it 5 months - bloody quick etc etc but preferred the 993 turbo I had before.
Reckon will get about £50K in part exchange.
Not sure what to replace it with - want something well made, very quick, raw and most of all exciting. Something with an "edge".Thought about GT3. Any other ideas??

Sell it and buy a proper 911
(i.e pre1990's )
Preferably an old Carrera RS, not as quick, but certainly more raw and hell of alot more in touch with the road.

seriously why are you coming on SN to talk about a car probably 10 times worth more than most of the carp here....
of course you are entitled to but IMO you would get a more intelligble response on piston head or a board like that

There's obviously lots of choice if you can go up to or over 50k. How much can you afford/do you want to spend - that may dictate what the best car for you actually is? Buy EVO magazine and read the EVO knowledge at the back and then compile a shortlist. Anything worth buying from recent years will be covered in there and I've got every issue, so could give you some good info from their past tests to help you decide. Me, I'd be looking at something like a Ferrari F430 if I could afford it...

R34 GTR, and plenty of change.
Other than that, an Exige S is on my want list, as is a Sagaris. dont think either would bore you too much!

Good ideas.
What about a 993 RS - very rare but prices are going up.
Fancy a evo MR360 as well.
Had a scooby years ago and then a evo 300 3-4 years ago - most fun car I ever owned.

MY06 T25
New Noble
GT3
GT3 RS
993 RS is fabulous but also fabulously expensive (prices continue to rise)
Personally would not bother with either Lotus or TVR at this level. Indeed TVR seem to have all but stopped making cars now.
Or get a decent coupe for the road and something special for the weekend, SR3 and take it on track

How about one of the last NSXs? World class engine note, top notch build and reliabily and relatively practical. You don't see many off them and, while you will have to work the engine a little more than the porker, it should provide the combination of performance/comfort/edge that you are looking for. I have done the STI thing and they definitely don't have the edge you are looking for so don't even think about going there!

Being an NSX owner, I think if he gets board of the 996T he'll get bored of an NSX. As its relatively the same without the oomph, unless he gets a more hardcore import version. Great car to live with, but its just too easy - like the 996.
However a 1973 RS isn't easy to live with, but being 500kg lighter than a 996 or NSX for that, it's alot more edgy, especially if the engine has been tweeked.

Ok, how about going in the other direction. Everyone has suggested spending his entire budget and a bit more. Why not spend less? How about a supercharged Elise with loads of fancy options, an Z4M Coupe or maybe a supercharged 350Z? The only difficulty with taking this kind of action is that you don't have the posh key fob to impress people in the pub. Think different - don't be a sheep.

How about a Noble of some description or a reality check !
My 2001 Saab 9-3 LPT with nearly 90,000 miles on is available for disolusioned supercar owners on the very reasonable basis of a straight swap for a week, if you dont feel better about your 911 turbo after a week your money back.
Or, perhaps a brand new Kia Rio and give the rest to charity ?
