Default Volvo S40

I'm thinking of trading in my 52 plate Mini Cooper for either a 1.8 or 2.0 Volvo S40
I'm not looking for a hot hatch any more as i've had enough of them and just want something nippyish, comfy, reliable and cheap to run

Has anyone had 1 of these? any known problems? any figures on them, etc?

Thanks

I presume you mean the latest model? Solid A-B cars, built around mazda/focus chassis' but with a better interior and ride.

I only really use a car for work and back (maybe 100 miles a week) so i'm looking at 03 - 04 reg cars (sport models)

If you go for a Volvo, you'll also need a flatcap, pipe and slippers!

The old sports were the best looking of that era of car, but it wasn't a great car IMO. I would only entertain a T4, even for a work run. The rest of the petrol engines are poo. Diesel would be my other consideration.

Good luck in your search though, and drive loads of them first

I ran T4 for for 60k as a company car.

Great comfort, looked good (in black), brisk performance (about standard Bugeye quick), crap handling (understeers really badly)

Personally, although it wasn't the best car I had, it did like it. Personally I would avoid the lowly petrol versions as per Andy's note and go for the T4.

Thanks for the replies - T4s seem sparse (i'm wanting silver) and even 2.0 sports are a bit thin on the ground - saw in auto express (figures in back) that the 1.8 0-60 is about 11 secs so thats put me off them.
I think the 2.0 0-60 was just under 10secs which seems slow but if the drives ok then i'd compromise

flat cap for xmas then (along with a new cardy)

hope it's as good as described as the pics on their website were crap quality

the good thing about the car is it looks so understated but with an Upsolute chip it goes from 163-203bhp (ok not supercar performance but nippy)

few pics taken this morning
drove it back home yesterday (8- miles) and it felt weird - after having sporty cars for the last 15+ years this thing feels leathal - wallowy/ unstable but comfy. no rattles/ creaks and yep the brakes are tight (although the car has been stood for 4 months? - fully serviced before i collected it though)
