Default 2001 Audi A4 problem

Hope someone can help.

I'm not too tech so i'll do my best.

Idle is fine but when pulling away at lower rev's i can feel and hear a slight miss fire.

Anyone help me on what to look for.

Items done so far

New X4 injectors
New coil pack
New Spark Plugs
And new MAF (that made it worse so i'm back to the old one)

Any help would be really great as i'm not sure where to go or what to look for now.

Also, a mate told me to reset the ECU but i can't find the bugger, anyone know where it is?

Thanks in advance

Kevin

2001, is that the old shape or new shape A4?

If its the newer then the vag-com should be able to tell you the problem. You'll just need to get hold of a vag-com cable, then you can plug your laptop into it and get error codes from the car.

I think he's got the newer version,
Kevin had this done a few weeks ago by an independent but he came up with nothing.
Is this better to be handled by the likes of power-engineering or is there someone on here that could help Kevin.

Thanks for your reply Petem95, I'm replying on kevin's behalf as he doesn't get on here much and it was only posted because i was with him last night.

on my old shape (2000 X plate) the diagnostic port was under the rear ashtray (in centre console)
The problem sounds like a coilpack which are very common on 1.8T VAG cars - you mentioned having replaced this - was it just 1 you replaced?
You could try disconnecting the battery for 15mins to try to reset it?

i have a diagnostic reader which has a book of fault codes, it also clears dash lights (so must reset the ecu?) - paid about £30 on ebay

Any warning light on dash? if not maybe your lamda sensor is faulty this can cause your type of prob. dont know but maybe helps?. If it has a misfire that is down to lack of spark then the sensor should pick up unburnt fuel in the exhaust? If the mis. is down to lack of fuel you might have blocked/dirty fuel filter? sorry to be vague.Hope you get it sorted.

Robby,

Is there more than one coil pack on the car?

If there is Kevin/Chelsea77 did you get them both changed or just the one?? You talk about changing all 4..... think these could have been spark plugs not coils.

I'd take it to "Halfords" to be honest, they sorted a problem with my van last night.

Did you know if you put a 7" tail pipe on it will go faster, plus you wouldn't hear the miss fire

All jokes aside mate, take it to power engineering or the likes of......

Adam[/QUOTE]

there are 4 - each sit on top of the spark plugs (they have a flat top) - on a 4 year old golf GTi (turbo) i had 2 replaced even out of warranty as it's a known problem

is yours the turbo version?

Is it worse from cold start or is it a constant fault no matter hot or cold.. I'd clean out the throttle body and whats the origin of the ignition coils.. the coils designed for this engine are sh*te, I've fitted brand new ones and there faulty... take it in to your local Audi centre ask them to check the coil numbers you may be entitled to free replacements under warranty.. (yes even if it is miles out of manufacturers the coils are still covered!).

ISCV ? (Idle Speed Control Valve). If stuck in an open position then then mixture will be lean during idle (causing det) and might explain the stalling.
