Default E36 m3 saloon or audi s4

I looking for a new car to keep for 6 months or so before I get a E39 m5. I'm thinking either a E36 m3 saloon or audi s4 avant.

I know there both about the same speed once the s4's been chipped and around about the same price. I've not driven either yet but have only ever owned bmw's.

What are the pro's and con's of each?

Which would a loose least money on in that short time?

Do the audi avants handle different to the saloon?

And does the bmw saloon handle different to the coupe?

Thanks

Its the variable valve timing gear as produced by BMW, its a little bit iffy in its earlier incarnations.

Depends on what you want, as they are 2 TOTALLY different driving experiences.......

I personally didn't enjoy the M3 at all. It left me thinking "what's so special about the M3?"

I've got the S4 myself, and it suits the family lifestyle perfectly - and I get something that's potent! £500 will see you pushing 320bhp on a B5 S4 Avant for not much money (in consideration to how much the car cost)......

Drive them both - the BM will probably be a more focussed experience, but the Audi (IMHO) is easier to live with!!

Feel free to pm me for more info about the Audi

Dan

So is it safe to say, if its stamped by rolls royce, then it should cause no problems ?

Saloon had 10% softer srings than its coupe counterpart.

Audi looks good, is more discreet, but is more of a fast family saloon whereas the BMW is more of an entertainer (although i had a coupe, but cant see a 10% difference being that much)

Get a stealthy coloured saloon debadge it and go 911 hunting!
