Vectra DTi

Vectra DTi
Anyone got one.....
Looking at either the 2.0 or the 2.2.....
If anyone has one could you tell me what you get MPG wise, obviously looked at the book estimates but would rather a real world figure.....
Also - Anyone had theirs chipped, worth the hassle or pointless on a big ol oil burner?

Lol....
Needs must and all that.... buying a diesel now means in one years time i can buy a 2nd car which will be much more fun! Currently the majority of my driving (90%) is commuting through the city centre which may as well be done in a comfortable diesel over my scoob which costs a lot more to run.....

Ignore the anti Vectra comments ok it wont set the world alight, i hired one for a weekend and it was ok! a bit sluggish but once up to speed perfectly fine, i got over 50mpg on a run and i have to say it was really comfortable and even the handling was quite respectable - all in all a nice easy to drive car. My only doubt is what is the equivalent Mondeo like? i suspect it would handle better but i cant comment as i have never drove a diesel version.
with regards to chipping - i woudl not bother unless its a beemer or a VAG unit i.e. Golf, Passat.
Just my opinion

Was it the 2.0 you had Chief? I've had a 1.8 petrol as a courtesy car before and i found it superb apart from the fact it was pretty sluggish, very comfortable and quiet, loads of storage etc..
Granted the handling was probably pants but you don't buy a vectra for that!!
I've driven a 2.0 TDCi Mondeo Zetec which is 130 and altho it was mega torquey i just didn't like the feel of it, the steering had huge play in it and quite literally no feedback whatsoever!

I had the 2.0 DTi as far as i know - pretty torque and pulled great in 5th on teh motorway - it just ran out of puff a bit at the top-end (like most diesels do)
TBH i expected it to be a dog but was pleasantly surprised

Sorry - just saving Anallover the trouble of posting
Cracking deals to be had, and they're not bad at all. 2.2 is probably the one to get.
Just don't expect to get too excited.

When you consider for 5k i'm looking at a 52 plate with approx 45-50k miles, FSH, 2.2 with elec everything and minimum of 40-45mpg it can't be bad!
I genuinely don't expect to have a great drivers car, i want something easy to live with, torquey, cheap to run and most of all comfortable and reliable which i think the Vectra will be.

Any more comments on the Mondeo TDCI Ghia (130).... thinking cos of the spec list maybe its worth giving it another shot!
It was really the steering i disliked, any opinions cos maybe the one i drove had dodgy tyres or something.....

I have drove the Vectra DTi and also a Mondeo - but a petrol not a diesel, not sure if this would make a big difference - i found the Mondeo to be a superb handling car for this type of car lovely weighty steering and not a great deal of body roll. btbh not a lot in it - i found the Vectra a pleasantly comfortable economical car to drive - if a little gutless and uninvolving

What year of Mondeo, i'm thinking maybe the tyres were dodgy or something in the car i drove, maybe even a steering fault cos there was quite considerable play in the wheel as well...... cheers for the response.....

If you get the 1.9CDTI engine thats 150bhp you can spend £200 on a powerclick box that will give you 197bhp and 302LB/FT torque... and an extra 3mpg too.
