Default Hot Starting Problems on Passat TDi

Hi,

I'm currently running around in a 2000 Passat TDi 130 Sport.

Last night, after about a 40 minute drive, I parked up for ten minutes. When I returned to the car, it would fire, the revs would rise to 1000 rpm, then it would die. It did this for about 5 or 6 attempts then after I turned all other electrics off (radio/air con) it started and idled fine.

Drove home, and left it for 3 hours, and it did the same again.

Started fine this morning, and again after I'd left it for 5 minutes.

Any ideas?

Jonathan

As Banana says, the high idle points to the coolant temp sensor, it's at the back of the block near the bulkhead and under the inlet trunking from the intercooler.

Try disconnecting and reconnecting the loom plug to the sensor a few times to "wipe" the connectors clean. It's a bit of a pig to get to, you have to remove the engine cover.

Took car to garage, and 1st said it was camshaft sensor, second said coolant temp sender.

Changed sender and housing coz it was corroded, then said MAF was faulty, all in nearly £600!!!!!

That's bad enough, but car still performing same way.

What am I able to do considering they said they'd fixed it, but obviously they haven't?
