I presume you mean the new IS220d?
I test drove one a couple of months ago. Smart looking car, very nice interior, totally gutless and rattly engine. I was really disappointed, given that there are some very good diesel engines out there now - but I guess it's a bit late for that in your case
I tried a variety of diesels when I was looking for a more comfy/economical replacement for my STI. The Lexus diesel was the worst (sorry!), and the new BMW 320d was pretty asthmatic too. The Volvo 2.4 D5 (in the S60) was pretty good, and so was the Audi A4 2.0D (which combines a punchy engine with a superb gearbox). Best of all was the BMW 3 litre diesel which I ended up with.
I guess maybe you could get your engine remapped? It's a very new car but it might be worth registering your interest with some of the usual diesel remapping companies if they don't do a chip already.

Prob is i ll only have it for 2 years so is it worth it?, i m just gonna use my fiesta i think it feels so much better to drive, this is the 1st toyota diesel engine right?
your right, the gearbox is not good i think it may be the ratios as they have a sport version with diff ratios, not impressed to be honest.

Hi
I read a test rerport on the new IS diesel.
The exec version has different gearing to the new sport version - which gives the exec very poor in-gear acceleration - something diesels are normally good at!
They have changed the gearing for the sport version - and it is much better - although not up to 320d standards apparently.
Cheers!
Steve

What Steve said, the first test report I saw on the Lexus diesel said that it didn't feel like nearly 300 ft-lb of torque, and it arrived quite late.
I've seen a similar report about the new 170bhp VAG diesel too, apparently despitr the on-paper advantage it didn't FEEL like an extra 30bhp over the cooking 2 litre diesel

Hmm, sounds just like the old IS200 then: no power until the last part of rev counter quickly followed by the rev limiter, change gear, drop out of the power and repeat. Very annoying.

In conclusion diesels are ****e unless your the kind of person who actually makes a game out of fuel economy. They are the devils work! (hence taxi drivers love em!)

I'll have to agree with the road testers, the IS220D is not a good car. I've not driven the sport but that didn't get a good right up either.
It doesn't have much off boost torque and the long gearing makes this worse. You have to keep it on boost to make good progress and then then engine gets vocal. It's way behind other compact execs and not even as good as some family cars like the TDCi Mondeo.
Whatcar say.
"Lexus' first diesel engine is something of a disappointment. The IS220d's 175bhp compares favourably to its rivals but, although it's swift, it isn't as punchy as you'd expect. Refinement, fuel economy and CO2 emissions fall short of the Lexus' key competitors too."
Sorry
