id take the megane ,lcr was in top gears top ten of worst understeering cars a few years ago, alongside such greats as daewoos and protons,it was the best of the ten but even so just to be in the test was extremely embaresing, and its only gonna get worse the more power you add .Imo they are one trick ponies ,i.e motorway duelling, anything that requires traction is a no no.

I have a few jpegs of a EVO test of a LCR vs. Megane 225, PM me your email address and I'll send it you.
But the review ends with.... "Anyone who needs to upsize from the brilliant Clio 182 might think that the Megane 225 was the obvious choice, but if its the same thrills you're after, sadly it isn't. And it's a good job I'm not a betting man, because the Leon Cupra R, although less than flawless, is the better driver's car by some margin, and more affordable, too."
IMO the Megane is a decent car, but seating position is far too high and that interior is just shocking, yes, the Cupra R interior is no oil painting, but is a much nicer place to be.

I would imagine the Seat but there is a best motoring vid about with the std 225 megane (not cup or trophy) against a new Teg (stared futher back thean the rest), couple of Golf GTi`s (one with DSG) Astra 2ltr etc and it does very well...finishing 2nd to the Teg when the it did an amazingly late brake in to the penultimate corner. Was surprised just how well it handled...

What about a CTR? I've driven the 225 cup and the interior is awful, cheap, plastically and dull. I haven't driven a LCR but had a few run ins with them in my CTR, they quick in a straight line but on track the CTR shines. The VTEC engine will probably outlive you. If you want any info on the CTR let me know as ive had mine 14months so far. Probably upgrading to an 05 STI PPP in October though.

Only one answer: test drive both and go with what suits you. They're both competent cars, and both'll make you grin.
Oh, and for goodness' sake, don't pay anywhere near list for the renault: you can get 'em dirt cheap brand new by all accounts.

Back to original post, the LCR is a better all round car, the 225 will depreciate like a stone in water and the quality is not up to that of a VAG Group car.

My CTR wants to rev all day, everyday where as I felt the 225 just put up with it and as its French will eventually surrender (under the stress of being driven hard).

LCR suffers from lift off oversteer though so keep ESP on when on public roads
I paid full list price for my LCR and put 53k miles on it in just over 2.5years. sold for £10,500. sold so Bl**dy quickly could have got a wee bit more I think!
So I think they hold there money pretty well...
