I owned one 8 years ago for a few weeks. They are one of the few cars with real soul and character, and the engine begged you to driv flat out on every journey. The left hand drive was no problem.
Just after I sold mine, the Barchetta featured on BBC Watchdog with some engine fault which the Fiat and the dealers dismissed - worth researching. One downside was the thin seats - a two hour journey was plenty long enough.
The reason why the insurance is group 16 is the entire bumper/nose/front wings is one piece (and the rear is similar) so a tiny bump will be expensive.
Would I buy another in preference to an MGF or MX5? Probably

DTR were the experts highlighting the problem on watchdog and got them to do a recall. They actually sell more new Berchettas than the whole of Fiat UK.
I'm in there quite a lot and have been tempteed on more than one occasion.
Nothing wrong with Fiats, only the dealers.
