I took a risk and bid on a range rover in a car auction 97 p reg 4.6 hse full leather and all the toys ...

now the bad bit when i went to pick it up i put the key in and on the dash lit up the words GEARBOX FAULT and LOW WATER IN WASHER BOTTLE

Now i can live with the water bottle thing but does anyone know what the falt maybe on the box is this likley to be new gearbox or falty sensor any clues or experts here ?

The car has done 130k with full history

The car drove so i know 1st gear works fine so anyone lives in london and needs a range rover let me know

btw it gets deliverd next week on a truck so i havent driven it yet

Did they need to jump start the range rover at all as when the battarys are going flat they throw up all sorts of faults.

They are a fairly good box and rairly go wrong, best to take it somewhere and get it plugged in and check the faults out.

Gearbox faults comin up on the dash are common place on the P38..
Get a diag check on it and go from there.Many still drive perfectly,and will do forever..
Welcome to range rover ownership,beleive me your eyes will be glued to the dash just waiting for the next fault to appear,and it wont let you down!!!

the batterys were flat and it dident turn over when seen GEARBOX FALT i just orderd the delivery as i dident fancy a 70 mile trip in a car i dont know

How much did you pay ? 4.6 suffer from serious over heating hence why you see so many with new engines. Check the cooling system, and flush it out.

Tempted to get a Rangy myself :-)

Fingers crossed its a electronic issue.

I PAID 3.5K i was talking to a mate with a range rover today and he said his reads gearbox falt as soon as he gets over 120mph but it gos off when he restarts it
