Hot Hatch for around £20k, which one?

Hot Hatch for around £20k, which one?
Anything else I should be looking at to rival a Focus ST for value/performance?
Needs to be viable to use everyday, have comfort, performance, and image, and very importantly, hold some future value.
What are peoples general opinions on what an ST would be worth at 2 years old, with 24k miles on it? Id guess at £13k, but might be way off if they end up flooding the market.
Golf GTi isnt my favorite car, and ive seen some pics of a replacemnt Golf already, and the Vauxhall VXR isnt quite what im looking for, thou may try it too.
Test drove the ST, and was very impressed, but wanted to check whether anyone would recommend something above it (coupe' etc is fine too, only 2 setas required ultimately, but not really looking for another convertable, S2000 type car)

by all accounts, a new ST can be picked up for around 15ish from brokers/with ford discount, so i would doubt it would be worth 13k, in 2 years time.
i would have thought a golf gti would fit the bill best out of what your looking for, but i'm biased as i have one, and as you say its not your favourite.

Different class to the ST (far to chav)
You cant get the ST with any discount the internet dealers can not get them (they lie)
ST will be worth nothing in 2 years time
Golf in a different league as far as quality goes
Performance nothing much in it. The Golf is marginally faster round a track.
Fuel ... the ST is terrible on fuel gets about 20MPG average !! the GTI will do 35ish if driven sensibly.
Mods ...
Blue fin gives the ST about 240bhp (proven on rollers they have a very poor intercooler and get massive intake temps)
Revo sp1 (plug in yourself and remove for service / warranty) will give the GTi 260bhp
If I wasnt buying a house I would of gone for a GTI as I have sold my JDM STI, its a very very good everyday car. (whatcar and top gear car of the year).
I did have a ST on order from BUYMYNEWCAR.com but its been 6months and they cannot give me a delivery yet ...... I ve cancelled as I am buying a house and a make do car for now.

Not sure about the Golf, to be fair I havent tried one, so will give it a go, but dont like the looks particullaly.
I would like a new car, 2 years PCP ideally, and something that doesnt cost the earth to run (Evo 260 an option, not sure about running costs/resale).

Wait a couple months. The GTI is getting a facelift, the ST eats fuel and depreciation wont be good, and the VXR is chavvy eats fuel will depreciate badly has a bit of a poo interior and I think it looks dated already.
Some more hot hatches are on theyre way so Id weight.

I don't suppose you can wait till autumn? AS there is a Mazda 3 MPS coming then. Looking really good so far. Combining the best bits of the Focus (the chassis, which despite what many think is superb) and the engine from it's big brother (a de-tuned version of the 4 cyl from the Mazda 6 MPS). De-tuned being relative as it still has 247 bhp. 0-62 in 'just' over 6 seconds and a top speed of a limited 155 mph.
Price romoured to be more Focus than it's nearest performance rival the Golf R32. looks, well I guess the new 3 is not to everyones tasste but i think it is not to bad. Good build quality, at least on a par with the Golf.
Of course final verdict is still to come in re handeling, but if it is at least as fun as the new GTI, then it could be a good option to the Golf for those who may want to stick to a Japanese marque
, and the benifits that brings (reliability, generaly good dealer service etc etc).
Oh and being the engine is just a de-tuned version of the 6 MPS, should be fairly easy to extract the full 266 bhp from it, though that could make the drive somewhat 'interesting'....

I wouldnt spend that much on a hot hatch?? if you want somthing cheap to run and useable why not get the fiesta st and save urself 10k??
if you want more performance 182cup??? still save you 5-6k??

Go try the VXR. I swapped my nice but dull MKV GTI for one.
Get 30mpg out of it, residuals over three years have just been revised upward by CAP to 50%. You can buy one new for just over 17k inc metalic.
Had mine 5 months, never needed to visit the dealers, no rattles etc. There will only be 2500/year compared to 6000 GTI and 2m ST's, so not everyone has one.
Best of all its FUN. Evo found it quicker on track than a Clio Trophy.

So that rules out the Integra, the Evos, the Clio, the ST and the Leon
Golf looks good if you can get a deal on it, considering the facelift due.

Foregoing new, I could spend about £17500 on a used ST, or less on a used VXR, miss any waiting lists, and also miss the main depreciation.
Theres a VXR on autotrader from a dealer for £16900, with only a few miles on it.
After a lot of looking about, ive decided PCP isnt the way to go, so it opens up used cars too, as will have cash to barter with.
Right, as far as some of the suggestions go:
Integra - no way!! im done with VTEC for a while, I want a car with a well rounded engine, and Honda just dont make them, torqueless and revvy is not what im after currently.
Golf - lovely little hatch, but doesnt excite me at all. Have an A3 currently, and it would almost feel too simlar. On the maybe list.
VXR - Chins, cheers for the info, how do you find it day to day use? I do a 38 mile round trip to work and back every day, and its mostly bumper to bumper stuff, so needs to be able to do the daily grind stuff well enough too.
ST - really like it, but it seems to have an unrealistically high used value at the mo, which may all fall apart when the waiting lists shrink, and there's a lot available. Could end up getting stung on values in a year or so.
I suppose I should look at a SEAT, now used is an option, nearly bought a Leon Cupra R before, Revo'd to 270BHP, so might fill all my needs.
Ideally I want the car to be insurance group 17 or less, give a combined of around 25MPG, and be quick and fun.
Will also look at coupe's, anything that fills the above and costs less than £17500, and will have something of a value left after 2 years (less important now im going used).

What would I get better that fits all my criteria? and whats wrong with a hatch if you dont need a saloon? or want a RWD sports car?
I want something with easily accessible power, thats fun, and useable every day, even in winter, and I dont want a sensible/fun 2 car solution, so a hatch seems like the best option, plus these days hatches arent lesser cars to their bigger brothers, they have a market niche all to themselves.
Like I said, will consider a coop or similar if there's one out there that can do all the above, but dont want S2000, or 350Z, RX8 maybe, but not all that quick, and very juicy.
Boxster S would be an option, but them insurance costs go through the roof (group 20), so really, my requiremnets dont give me a very big short list.
