Default Renault sport spider

Hi guys, was looking at s1 elises on the web today and came across a renault sport spider. I havnt seen one of these for ages but really like the look of it, looks like a close rival to the elise.Has anyone owned/got experiences of one??

love the looks but not actually very quick, far slower than any elise. it's got the clio ***** 150 bhp engine but weight not so low. not very practical either - no roof, but someone must have made an aftermarket one by now. at least this one has the uk spec windscreen, others had nothing!

The new elise's will beat it, but back in 1996??

Its a shame its not quicker, although must be very reliable compared to the elise?

On the Renault Alpine forum big discussion about these, up shoot is they are to heavy for the 150 bhp. An elise will whip it's *** as a road car all day long.

The Lotus is in a different league

Now if you could an ex-racing spider

Yup too heavy as standard, drop one of the race prepped engines in and you're doing better tho :P

Not cheap either, but they look cracking.

Another Renault model that was a bit unusual, nice to see a mainstream manufacturer doing something like that back then though.

Although wtf has this guy done to this one, it looked ok in the other pics

Very nice looking, never driven one, but if i had enough money to have a collection of decent cars, that would most definatly be pert of it

You can get them modded with a 172/182 engine, throttle bodies etc giving around 240bhp & they sound fabulous.

Agree with r1916v, just replaced the standard Clio Williams engine with a race spider engine in my friends sprinting Clio and it's bloody amazing, revs so freely should be interesting on the track
