I'm being biased here, but I would have to say a WRC specced Escort Cosworth. This is probably my ultimate car as well. Now i'm starting to realise that my Escort will be with me for ever, I have decided to write off the purchase cost and year by year transform it into a Grp'd spec rally car. The engines been done this year and I hope to do the Exterior next year (paint scheme and spoilers), and then the interior the following year (strip out, roll cage & fuel tank).

I love the noise, looks and power of the rally cars.

Perhaps it's just me, but I feel very passionate about the ESCORT WRC.

Shaun.

For me it would be that prototype they built, a puma with escort cosworth running gear and engine. Think it was just the one they built and was valued at a quater of a million or something.

Has to be that Puma!!! Why didn't ford enter the wrc with that car? The puma handles superbly as standard so I can't imagine how good that one is.

Got to be the RS200. I saw a mint standard one with polished split rims at Rockingham earlier this year, the damn thing shaved 20 points off my IQ is was so sweet.

Paul,

The Puma is too small to be a WRC, it is shorter than the regulations permit. The 206 is also to short thats why it has those stupid extended bumpers.

From fords marketing point of view it has to promote a volume seller in the Championship and the Focus is its top seller. I also think the 2litre ESP Zetec Focus handles better than the Puma especially on bumpy surfaces.

Cheers

I agree with CraigH. For my money if you're talking ultimate, cash no object dream car it should be unique, rare and virtually unobtainable - fine though the 'cossies, works cars etc. are.

The GT40 is a thoroughbred racer and a complete classic, plus the chances of ever getting hold of one are slim indeed overpaid, annoying TV "personalities" excepted.

beemer i think that applys to the rs 200 too, as they only built 200 hense the name. have you ever seen one???? rs 200 evo is probaly quicker depending on the spec. 0-60mph in 3.16sec was a world record a year or 2 ago, don`t know if it still stands. 160+ top end?
get my vote.
gt40 is still a classic though.

GT40, no question.

Had to say it again.

RS200's are AWESOME - GT40's are timeless - RS200s aren't.

GT40s are major chamionship winners.

RS200s won nothing as they were ruled out before they were fully developed - apart from Rallycross.

For arguments sake, i'll take both!!

RS200.

To my mind it was the Mark III Capri 280.

Drive a well sorted one of these and you will see why. Cheap charismatic and entertaining in a way that any modern car isnt.

Properly modified they are quick too. I have accompanied Capri club meets on a couple of occasions in my old MY98 Impreza. In the dry they could certainly keep up.

I find it sad that with Capris that most people nowadays cant see past the ignorant naff media image. In their day they had a big enthusiast following and got rave reviews in the press.

It would have to be an Escort MK2 RS 1800 twin cam for me as I am not greedy but love the MK2 with all the bits, as for the Puma WRC car I have been in it and had it at the Ford Puma meet I arranged in the Lakes.

The photos and write up of the meet can be found at:

http://www.pumapeople.co.uk/

Then look under events 1999.

Has to be this particular example of an RS200 Evo (not that I'm biased or anything, having had the opportunity of going out in it...).

This is THE ex 0-60 and 0-100-0 record holder. Did 0-60 in 3.16s (mean) and 0-100-0 in 12.7 - all with only 480bhp at the time. It has now just been fully rebuilt and on normal 97RON fuel made 670bhp and on Elf Turbo fuel (119RON) 704bhp! It has £25k of X-Trac transmission and WILL retake the 0-100-0 record (McLaren F1 GTR LM - 11.5s). It revs to over 9000 and sounds like a mental motorbike (and out performs any you care to mention up to it's gearing limited top speed of 150mph). It accelerates so quickly that you have to keep hold of the gearleaver, as changes are required every couple of seconds and if you let go, you would not be able to move your arm back to grab hold of it again without coming off the throttle !

Just want my numbers to come up and I would have this car....

Nobody's mentioned the...

Model T (any colour you like as long as it's black)
Mustang (Bullitt. Need I say more?)
Prefect
Zephyr
Edsel (ha ha ha ha ha ha)

I always hankered after the mk2 RS2000 with the droop snoot.

Off the shelf ford, got to be an RS 200 Evo without question for me. Quite a few normal RS200's about, but an Evo, think there is something like 10 left. 24 (I think) were made but 12 (I think) were stripped down for spares.

I suppose as a second choice I should say my own car, but no. If I started again I would build a full on touring car spec rwd 3dr running a mental rallycross engine (600+Bhp) purely for track use. It has come clear to me lately that trying to build a car for the road and track just don't work, especially if you use a crappy understeering Escort Cossie as a base!! Back to the drawing board in a year or so and start again me thinks!!

Dan
