Default BMW Z4 ..... is there any reason to get one??

Please tell me that these machines are ****!!

I have been looking at new MX5s and at the price (£17,000) BMW Z4s can be bought .... ok, they will have 25,000miles on a 2.5Litre 6 pot engine .... but, I can't help myself I think they look very nice!!

BUT, it's a BMW!!!

What am I to do???

I am NOT a BMW Driver!!

Im not convinced Z4 2.5's are down to 17k - what year would that be for?

Remember you'd be wanting to get one with a decent spec - leather, decent alloys etc to make it easy to re-sell.

Im not a BMW fan either, but have to admit I quite like the Z4 because it looks a bit quirky - enough to put hairdressers off - and should be a great drive, especially the 2.5.

Sorry to disappoint but they're ace. Love 'em. Go buy one, you'll not regret it.

From someone who owns the hairdressers car and the chav boy racers car and you're worried about the image of a bmw LOL @ the irony

Every car has an image (problem), it's up to you whether it bothers you or not.

I, too, never thought I'd ever own a bmw (image blah blah blah) but then I grew up, now have a 740 and it's great, I'm not gonna deny myself a good car just because of what people might think. Still, would NEVER buy a 3 series

What year 7 series and the Z4 is ghey. Its so damn ugly. Not even the M-version was able to make it look desirable.

Ive had a go in a 54 plate 3.0...It was great.Relatively quick and had good build quality,a lot of car..

Why go for a Z4 when you could have my ZM Coupe on 30k miles for just £19k?

Have to admit i do like them.

They go very well, i hd a run with a 3.0l when i had the Porker and it was only after 80 that i really started to pull on it. Fair play to the driver he tried, bless.....

That's km/h of course

Funnily enough my dad did have one of those back in 1990, thats where my audi love started, preffered it over our e-class.

I drive a S40 mate.

Get the S2000. Z4's look so crap, and its borderline hairdressers car.

Pete, just do it - we all think you're ghey anyway

Great cars. Like you, I had no intention of buying a BMW, until I drove a 1 series and recently bought a 120D Sport.

Looks are certainly not to everyone's taste, but it is, IMO, the best driving car in its class my some considerable margin.

The Z4 is not as chuckable as the MX5 but would have more straightline ability than the Mazda, although I'm basing my opinion on the 3.0 litre version, not the 2.5 litre. The general build quality would be slightly higher on the Beemer but you will be disappointed with some of the fittings such as doors which sound like they've come off a 1970s Lec fridge, they're so tinny. Some of the leather work behind the scenes is a bit shoddy too.

If I had the choice between the 3.0 litre Z4 and the MX5 I wouldn't hesitate in taking the Z4 and the only reason I'd be less certain with the 2.5 litre is down to lack of experience with that engine.

Well, the MX5 wins almost all of the 2-seater sports car tests ... and therein lies the problem!

That's the funniest thing i've read on here in ages, the amount of garbage you spout about other cars I was expecting you to drive a 911 or something similar, but you have an old mans Volvo!!

I drove an alpina z4 pushing some 350bhp - not exactly a ghey car.
Great build, great handling the stock z4 is a great car and i would have one over an MX5 and i like the MX5 to drive.

As for image
Audilover - Audis generally bought by those who aspire to a BMW or just want to be different but do not have the money to do it properly or is that a general thoughtless stereotyping by me

Drive a volvo - thats an old mans car innit - or am i stereotyping again

Z4 image....in summary:

96% of the population see a convertible sports car and think its cool....of these 69% notice its a BMW and think its posh as well. The other 31% dont care what make it is.

3.5% of the poulation see a Z4 because they are petrol heads....of these 40% like them, 40% dont like them and 20% dont like them but realise they are still great cars.

.5% of the population are blind and dont see them at all.

so if you are bother about less than half of bugger all not liking it...avoid. If the blind thing worrys you just pull over when you spot one and tell him what your driving....odds are he'll like it.
