Forester Sti
Anyone got one?
Read the Evo reviews etc. an am naturally familiar with the joys of the Boxer drivetrain.
What I need to know is the boring practical stuff as the Subaru website is useless.
Do the rear seats move, remove, slide etc?
What is the cargo space like compared to an Audi RS6 Avant?
MPG?
Does it have the DCCD?
Whats the ground clearance like (my main worry with the RS6 is going into some of the pretty bumpy car parks and mud roads to go biking at the weekends, weighed down with gear and bikes etc.)
Anyone got one?
PS Before anyone says it, I know Litcho sells them but doing some research before I decide if the journey up is worthwhile

Have a look at www.dhcars.co.uk There`s some info on there site. Or you could give them a call, sure they would be glad to help.
Isn`t a RS6 twice the price?

Hello Si...long time no.
So how do you find it then?
Any thoughts on my questions above?
My main concern is that it looks too short at the back to fit in a snowboard with the seats down, which even my Passat can manage
The RS6 of course wouldn't have that problem.

Is that the new or old passat?
Heres a comparison. Depends how much performance you want from your estate but there are some good deals going on the new A6 avant 3.2 quattro used.
S4 matches up well against subaru apart from max boot space, but thats measured in litres so your surf board could very well fit.

You could always pop down to the local Subaru dealers and have a look at a FXT - internal dimensions etc are exactly the same. Rear seats fold flat in split configuration.
My FXT does about 22mpg so expect around that from the Sti depending how you drive it and type of journey etc..
The Sti also sits about 1 1/2 to 2 inches lower that the FXT
I don't think it has DCCD but the guys can confirm
I'd say clearance isn't an issue for going over muddy fields etc but I wouldn't consider it for any serious off road activity..
Oh and btw if you didn't know already make sure you watch Fifth Gear next week when they are comparing one of Litchfields FSti's against a UK impreza Sti. Should be interesting !

I'm on my second one now (06) and can't recommend it enough.
The rear seats fold flat and also have a sliding lumber support (JDM only ??)
Cargo space is slightly less than the RS6
MPG is around 23
No DCCD
Ground clearance is not an issue and I have the areo kit which lowers it a bit more, I have used the FSTi for holidays fully loaded and 4 bikes on the towbar mount bike rack with no probs (still can humble most other cars and then watch the open mouths)
I've got to say that the wife uses it every day and as a all rounder it is very hard to beat and almost as enjoyable as our T25 although I don't clench my backside as much !!!!!!
The power pack is a must for the noise if not the power and the leather done by Terry @ Concept is fantastic.

To answer some of your questions..
Rear seats do slide a small amount.
Very good cargo space, but if you have specific requirement best to try one yourself.
Fuel consumption as with most depends how you drive it, my now with a few mods is around 20 mpg.
No DCCD.
No issues with ground clearance and mine now has AST's fitted, obviously these also give me options with ground clearance etc..
Overall it's the best all round car i've had, performance, space, reasonably rare and huge amount of fun
I have made quite a few changes though but even in standard STi form i would reccomend it.
Even the insurance is very reasonable, about £400 as it came from Litcho with the miltek/remap, then another £65 for DVD, Sat Nav, AST's, Intercooler,AP's etc..
As per Paul, if your in the Stroud area and want to try for yourself give me a call.

Mog - inbox now empty!
Si / Paul, thanks for the info / offers. Sounds very very tempting. I was set on the RS6 but I'm genuinely swayed by this now, looks like I'm going to have to do it properly and drive them both and see how they stack up. My feeling is that the RS6 is going to win out in terms of resale value, straight line poke and interior build, but the STi in sheer handling and fun and probably the depreciation will be offset slightly by the lesser running costs.
Hmmm, maybe I'm still slightly too young for an RS6...
