Default EVO 8 MR

I understand the MR version has better suspension. Is the steering feel any better than a Scoob's? Any experiences positive / negative appreciated

Aren't STi's with a PPP faster than an EVO ?

The steering is much sharper and has greater feeling than a MY06 UK STI. MR has Bilstein dampers. MR weighs about 90kg less than a MY06 UK STI. Stock MR turbo will get about 50BHP up on the UK STI with similar mods and very little lag.

Downsides -

Servicing intervals are 4500 miles
Standard Brake Disks made out of chocolate

A few possible downsides:

A slightly harder ride and more 'unsettled' by bumpy roads
Even lower mpg?
More frequent and more expensive servicing (4.5k intervals, AYC fluid change increasing costs)
Higher insurance?
Interior not quite as nice (subjective)

...but generally a more 'focused' drivers car with some of the above putting people off buying them and so making them a bit rarer.

The Evo does have a harder and I'd say quite a harsh ride. The steering response is very quick but I found this seemed to make the car twitchy and as previously mentioned a bit skittish over a bumpy surface.

18's with the right tyres help a lot, the standard Yokos are VERY noisy and tramline badly.

Must admit, I prefer the interior of the Evo especially when seats are trimmed half leather (FQ330/FQ340MR)

Fuel cost probably a little more.

Insurance, around same as STi PPP, however quotes now look higher since LivVic pulled out of perf cars.

I'm still with L&V and have just gone from a 330i bmw to an Evo VIII JDM. No probs with the ins apart from the £800.00 premium!!!!

Lower mpg than a ppp sti I think not!!!!
AYC fluid change £40.00
insurance....................Me, EVO VIII JDM £825/year..............Scoob sti ppp.......£910/year!!!!
interior. Who gives a **** about the interior?

I would really like to try the EVO instead of having the scooby. The thing that puts me off is the service intervals. The insurance i would assume is cheaper on the EVO compared to the Scooby with PPP since alot of insurers see the PPP as an engine modification? I've had a STI PPP and WRX PPP and the insurers have hit me hard due to the PPP. I'm 31 and full NCB.

Evo was slightly more expensive for me, looking at 650 for and StiPPP and 750 for the Evo. Best quote this year for an Sti was 505 but with a big excess. More and more insurers recognising the PPP as a manufacturer option.

Service intervals are more of a pain in the **** than a big cost. Use specialist servicing and it's not too bad.

The Evo was a fantastic car, maybe a better car, but I still prefer the Impreza.

I love the EVO but i could not live with the stupid service intervals and I would miss the noise of the scoob. Nothing else sounds like it. If they sorted the service intervals I might manage to live without the burble but to be honest the noise is my favourite part of scoob ownership and there is no sign of Mitsi changing their service intervals unless they make a whole new engine.

The service intervals are down to the diff, not the engine.

Is it really only £40 for the AYC oil change? Thats nowt really..I thought it was a lot more but I suppose at a main dealer they`d probably rape you

****FLAME SUIT ON****

Dont get me wrong i own a Scoob me-self and love the noise, but there is this guy who must work around my area and he blasts past in his EVO and god knows what exhaust he has on it because i've never heard anything like it. it sounds amazing - almost an F1 howl, i love the sound of my decatted Scoob but this EVO just knocks it into next week.

I'd love to know what system he has on it.

With regards to servicing - is it a full blown service every 4500k or just an oil change every other service, would make it not that expensive then!!!

Standard FQ330 HKS exhaust with bung removed was louder than an STiPPP.

So my mate told me as he could hear me passing his road.

My 4.5K services cost me £200.00 each!!! but that was with a main dealer. I sure they changed the engine oil and the diff.
Don't forget that a WR1 service intervals are 5K, so not that far off.

I think if you want to go very fast point to point for resonable amount of money the Evo is the tool. Living with it as a daily driver though can be hard work.

The Chief, I know what you mean about the noise, Mine had a decat on and it really did sound the dogs danglers.

i would never use a main dealer again as you can now keep you're warrranty with a specialist and 9 time's out of ten get a better service, the whole evo service thing i have never understood because in the long run there is nothing in it to change you're plug's on a impreza it's a big and expensive job the evo you can do it you're self in 15 minutes the same with the cambelt my local specialist charge 110 pound fitted a lot cheaper than when i had the impreza it cost me about 680 at roger clark's but i did have new pre tensioner's fitted

I don't think running costs are gonig to swing it, just not sure the Evo is special enough. A Boxster might be more fun? Who knows... maybe I should try em both

I didn't think the Evo VIII MR was any less comfortable than the MY06 UK STI.

The plugs on a Scooby I could do in half an hour and I'm no mechanic.

It does seem debated whether you really need to change all the AYC stuff so often, seems a UK thing? Some don't change the reservoir fluid, and then it is just like changing the oil in any other diff. If I got one I'd tune it up to 400 BHP anyway, and then a 4500 mile oil change would only be sensible I think, but I wouldn't want to pay main dealer rates!

Think Mitsu have stopped the AYC change every 4500 miles, think its every 9 now or something, engine oil still needs doing though. The MR's are a lot better from British roads apparently. Mine isnt an MR, ride is harsh but it the car doesnt feel skittish. Tyres help a lot - and you get used to the ride. Awesome handling and very fast.

Possibly craig5. I don't want two cars and have an E46 M3 at present which I love/hate for various reasons. I suspect I would love/hate an Evo for different reasons.

I would buy anything with practicality that handled well, had AWD, six cylinders and at least one turbo, and I would mod it to death
