Default Question for 205gti'ers

I've got a rattle / knock (can be seen as a vibration on the bottom pulley) from cold, sounds like the cambelt end of the engine on my 1.6. It goes away when warm and does not seem to be oil pressure related (the guage rises to 3/4 soon after start-up).

It has been suggested that its water pump related but I would expect it to continue making an unhealthy noise even when warm.

Is this the sort of thing a knackered cambelt tensioner would do?

Any other ideas?

Thanks for the link. The registration process seems a bit OTT but I might be able to trawl previous posts.

Just sign up, make sure you read and agree to the T&C (state this in your validation post), enter your location details in your profile, then wait to be validated.

Its worth it, and the process keeps the muppets out.

Your problem could be a few things, even a loose nut on the bottom pulley.
