Default CL600

Not many threads about this car so I thought I'd start one. There is one that has been for sale at a local garage for about six months. I went to look at it some time ago. It was parked in an internal showroom wedged in by many other cars and a fixed window, and just about to hit three years old. It looked in reasonable external condition with the odd mark on an alloy, but the salesman was not very interested in discussing the car with me. They recently lopped £7k off the price, and every week when the freebie paper arrives I look to see if it is still there. I still wonder what that V12 biturbo engine would be like with nearly 500 BHP and 590 lbft and I keep wondering about going to have another look/getting a drive (not nice thought to have a car sitting for six months though). It is at a price where a silly offer would be just a few grand and the M3...

Any experiences?

No, and I can't find details on it.

Can a MB warranty be extended once it is out of warranty?

You can get extended warranties for it. Doubt you would need it though. All the mercs above the E class are solid.

I couldn't really advise on the warranty, although a call to Mercedes with an explanation of why it has gone over the period may help.
As for the car itself, I'm sure you don't need telling that the thrust is amazing, with it accelerating hard all the way to the limiter. Don't expect it to be a demon through the twisties (although it is a lot more composed than you would give it credit for), but as a superb car for getting from A-B without getting noticed, then this is definately one.
I would consider one if I could afford one, and deemed it the type of car I wanted, just make sure the first thing to get modified is to get the limiter raised to 300km/h (186mph). They apparently won't let it loose completely as, the tyres can't take the weight at silly speeds.

iirc ,Mercedes do not do extended warranties, thats what they told me anyway. The problems with this car will be

1) Traction. My 350/340 C32 AMG struggles for traction even in the dry, in the wet, don't ask.

2) Fuel consumption. Mine returns circa 18mpg, and thats gentle but assertive driving

3) Steering on AMGs tends to be vague.

4) Maintenance costs

Wouldn't have thought this was your kind of car?

Why??????? Were are you going to go at that speed? To prison or the graveyard?

Sorry, looks like i was thinking of the CL65 AMG, the link to that is here http://www.racingflix.com/getvideo.asp?v=806

I knew someone with a CL500, one of the sensors on the gearbox seemed to fail at an alarming rate.

1)The weight helps cure the traction problem to a point

2) If you can afford this type of car, then why worry about the fuel

3)It ain't an AMG if it's a CL600, but it still isn't fantastic.

4)See point 2, but generally, if taken to a private specialist, it ain't too much to service and keep one (excluding the rear tyres of course)

And as to the point in the next post after that one, from a rolling start of about 20mph, I've seen one of these hit 130mph after 600-700yards, and was still pulling like it was at 70mph. If you do manage to get it to the continent, it would be a shame not to let it stretch it's legs

Remember the big german guy in Gumball 3000???? He got to most stations well in advanced of all the other cars and exoticas. CL's are stunners IMO. Wish I could afford to have one............for her indoors.

The gumball is a rally, not a race . In addition a BMW 330d Sport [modified] came 2nd that year I don’t think it makes that much of a difference what you drive, it’s how lucky you are, and how arsed you can be to win.......

£40k to enter this year though !

Apparently Max wanted more exclusivity hence the hike in the entrance fee. Now where did I put that lottery ticket?

I think its well worth a look.

Maybe see how they react when you arrive.

35k max is what i would set my stall out at. Personally if i hadnt just purchased a 330d Convertible to compliment the 535d, i would be heading up to have a look also.

I am a big fan of the SL & CL range & thats worth 35k all day long.

The ad for this one claims over £100k new. Stiffler's Mum had one in American Pie IIRC. First time I saw the car and thought it looked good, Jennifer Coolidge not bad for her vintage either:

CL's are monsters. I'd love one! The CLK is as close as I'll get for now.

BUY IT

I quite like these, but consider them a bit 'old man's car' looked at one recently and it had a wooden steering wheel...

However, it was AMG day on the M42 today, saw a nice CLK, SL and an 'E' class. This does not eclipse the McClaren SLR on the M40 last Saturday... I would never accelerate on the off-slip road like that!

Its teaming with them around here, isnt the AMG CL55 about the same performance ?

I think they look nice but they are an older gents car, perhaps for going to the golf club (at warp speed), never seen one driven quick though, well apaprt from a 55 that tore away from me in a Fiat Coupe like I was stood still,

How about the CL65..

The 65s seem to be about as sensible as making a bonfire out of £50 notes though.
