Cheers.

Octavia is good but will 12K get you the 2.0 diesel and a good spec is the question. The mondeo is what I'd go for, massive choice and potential to get the 130 or even ST155 diesel.

The Mondeo is a very good family car, and that's not a back-handed compliment, the TDCi motor is punchy and the handling is sweet. Interiors look a bit cack IMHO, the seat materials and trim plastics look low-rent compared to VAG cars.
Not driven one but the new Vectras are supposed to be surprisingly good too -- apparently enormous inside and the CDTi motors are highly rated. Don't know if the supermarkets / Motorpoint can get these at the 13K mark tho'. If they were badged as Opels they'd double sales overnight

I own a new shape Mondeo TDCI and highly recommend it.
I've also driven the new shape Vectra's through work, I think they are probably a bit bigger inside, though not much in it, but the Mondeo is a much better drive IMO.
Don't know about Laguna, not driven a renault for years

Just done the exact same thing myself.
£12k-£13k will only buy a lower spec Octavia with perhaps the 105bhp 1.9TDi
I'd go for the Mondeo £12-£13k will buy a year old, 10k-15k mile, GhiaX 2.0TDCi with full leather, climate controled electric seats, climate control, cruise, auto wipers, auto headlights, 6 speed box, Sony 6CD audio, puddle lights, global closing/opening, trip computer, etc. etc.
Look hard enough around the supermarkets and you could pick up a 2.2TDCi for that money with 155PS and 295lbft.
I wouldn't go near the Laguna, the latest Vectra is a nice big comfy car but boring to drive.
Cheers
