I have an Impreza at the moment. And before that I had a 3.2V6 Elite (with all the gubbins). You're right they were torqey. But still, didn't set my pulse racing.
Just asking the question in case I want to go back to a "delux barge". I really like the Vectras actually. Just wondered if there was something you could do to turn the V6 to turn it into a bit of a dark horse.

The 2.8T engine that is in the Vectra has been out in the SAAB for a while, its 250 BHP but Hirsch (Saab Official Tuning) do an ECU upgrade taking it to 300 BHP.
They have good torque but dont really blow you away whilst driving, it felt like a V8 Range Rover, Thirsty, loads of torque but no real get up and go.
I would say the 2.0T SAAB Aero is a quicker car point to point.
The biggest problem with the 2.8T is that the average MPG is 16-18, give it some right foot and it drops to 12 MPG. Not good at all.
