Identify This Engine...
...I have told my friend that this is a Honda engine.
The car is a 1992 Rover 216 GTi, and I am 100% sure that I am right but he thinks that I, and the guy selling it, are wrong?!
Is it not the same engine that they used in the Non-VTEC EF Civic and CRX?? 130bhp??
Cheers,
Grant

The easy way to tell is ALL Honda engines (except for certain v6s) are mounted in backwards (pulleys on the right hand side of engine bay)
Almost every other traverse mounted car engine has the pulleys on the left hand side

Taffyboyo... is your car a Twin Cam, or the Single Cam??
I thought the 1.6 non-VTEC CRX made 130bhp and just assumed that it would be the same in the Rover.. possibly not though, I have been known to get things wrong before!!
Cheers,
Grant

From what I can remember, they changed from twin cam to single cam honda 1.6 engines around H or J reg on the rovers. Also had cats put on around this time which helped reduce the power a bit !
I had a 1.6 GTI rover and remember shopping around to see what there was.

Generally, the standard 216 from 1989 to 1996 (i.e 216GSi 216Si, 216i etc ) was fitted with the SOHC Honda. All 214 engines were K-series.
The GTi was DOHC Honda from 1990 to 1994 IIRC
The same goes for the Rover 400 excepting that it got the 1.6 K-series from 1995 to 1996. IIRC
IIRC=get out clause
