Default S2000 vs Z3 3.0

OK, How about this comparison? Car to be used everyday including commuting. Both cars available for around the same money (11-12K). Both make over 230 bhp. Honda slightly quicker but power is devilered very high up the rev range. Looks? Quality? Handling? Practicality?

Your comments please.

Martin.

Honda won the JD power survey and Honda are always in the top 10 – so my 2nd hand cash would be on the Honda.

Would have to be s2000. Z3 is the ultimate hairdressers car. The only nice Z3 is the M coupe. As its an every day car you wont get better reliability than the honda plus its quicker.

There is no comparison really. The Honda in this case. Different matter with the Z4 though.

I don't know that much about the Z3 apart from a couple of drives in one which didn't impress me with scuttle shake and a general tendency to wander around corners which didn't inspire confidence, albeit with the usual above standard Beemer engine. The Honda, although a bit wayward on anything less than totally dry handled very well (at least my wife's did) and could be fun when rinsing it but I found the whole lack of low down torque a bit irritating when you didn't want to play.

I'd put my money on the Honda being the more satisfying proposition.

I came to my S2000 from a 3.0V6 and have never found the lack of torque a problem - I just adapted my driving. As for the handling I also find that fun in the wet/damp/muddy conditions. She talks to you; you just have to know her language. Unfortunately too many city boys bin them and hence the reputation.

Best car I've owned by far and I'd say between the S2000 and z3 its easy although the Z4 would be an interesting proposition.

S2000 - no contest. As above, Z4 - maybe a totally different proposition but none available yet for that money (well, ones that are still in one piece!)

i had a civic type r, which is the same basic block as the s2k. the torque is suprisingly ok, tho not anywhere near as urgent as a turbo obviously. between bmw and s2k..... s2k. and im a bmw fan. just prefer the s2k. loads of tuning options about aswell. put a decent exhaust and filter on one, and you wont regret it. they sound amazing when the mood permits. MAKE SURE its been serviced tho for god sake. they do drink a bit of oil. other wise it will go bang. keep it oiled up, and it will go on forever.

As others have said - chalk and cheese. Honda every time... Z3 ****ty chassis in comparison to the Honda. And even though a revvy engine, Honda still have never had a claim on a VTEC engine, so it's gotta be worth something...

Yes they have - i know of 2 S2000 engines that have gone pop. They've never had the VTEC bit of it die. Top Gear to blame for misquoting that over and over.

Anyway, yup totally different cars. One is a sports car (honda) one is a middle-aged womans posing mobile.

I agree the Z4 is better than the Z3 by a long way, but having driven one - still lacks something... Dunno I just prefered the S.
