Default Pug 306 cat issue??????????

My mate Cluck has a 306 Rallye which broke a cat. It's had a brand new one fitted but within a matter of 3 months, it's broke another. When i say broke, i mean it rattles it's nuts off. Any thoughts?

Could be a number of things.

Has he had a diagnostic completed on the car, usual reason for the internals rattling is usually a falty lambda sensor, running rich, faulty MAF or a miss-fire or possibly sudden temperature fluctuation i.e cat is redhot and is then soaked or submerged in cold water.

It's worth getting plugs, leads etc all checked and then a full tune / diagnostic to eliminate a fault.

Other than that little lot he has been very unlucky and has a faulty CAT .

Aah the good old days of handling CAT warranties, am I glad I don't have that pleasure any more .

The lambda sensor is probably fcuked, so the car is over fuelling and the excess fuel has damaged the cat core, this happened on my 106 GTi.

Either that or it's a cheapo sh!te cat he got!?

As it was new it should be covered under warranty though...

p.s. fit a decat

I remember the cat on my 106 got accidentally damaged by a broom poll! I then had to continue to use it with exhaust gasses flowing smoothly from the engine, through the exhaust and out the back! Shocking behaviour!

A friend's 306 gti 6 suffered a similar fate - this time the welding torch unwelded the cat, the contents of which fell out and the welder rejoined the remaining metal box!

Pop over to www.306gti6.com and ask the question, I'm sure you'll get some pointers off them!
