Default what is faster than a 996

A couple of guys I know can get a bit competative. One got a rolex but no diamonds so the other got a rolex with diamonds and I had one anyway. One had a golf turbo and the other got an audi tt then spent money on making it go fast while naturally I had the bragging rights as I had the scoob. Now though he game has moved as one got a Porshce 996 non turbo now the other picks his 996 up on friday. So while I don't really need to keep up with the 'game' I still want bragging rights as my X5 is up for sale anyway. I had originally planned to get a lotus elise 111s but am now thinking that there might be something else that might match the handleing or power of the porsche. (i can't afford a turbo btw)
I don't need to try and keep up and will probably get an elise anyway but perhaps someone can think of something else to consider.

A normally aspirated 996 carrera 2 is between about 10 and 11.5 seconds to 100mph, depending on which road test you read.

In unmodified cars there aren't very many I can think of which are quicker this side of a 911 turbo (which you say you can't afford), but I guess you could consider several TVRs (Cerbera, Tuscan, Tamora), Lotus Esprit Sport 350 or some of the AMG Mercs.

An Impreza, Evo, Skyline with the right mods can definitely be made to accelerate faster.

But whether any of these choices give you 'bragging rights' over a 996 is another matter!

Your best bet is probably a motorcycle.

I remember seeing a 600bhp Skyline R33 for sale not long ago for 16k. In the nice purple colour too I'll have a look and try to find it again!

got to love the sales pitch on the first one...

"The power is just immense, it literally tries to tear itself from the road "

plus NOBODY will be looking at the 996 when that baby pulls up...

From reading your post it would seem these guys are your merchant banker type?

If so it doesnt matter if you have some jap skyline that does 0-1000 in 2 seconds because to them the 911 is still the better more class car.

So you will need something not alone quicker, but also out blings them.

Aston Martin Vanquish would do the job very well

But if you turn up in an Exige they probably wont have any idea what it is and they will just laugh.

Saying that the new 997 Carrera S is an awesum bit of kit :

maybe I'm biased cos I just love Skylines but 0-60 in 3.6secs and 0-100 in 8.4secs will do more than hush their titters.

But for people like thats its not all about the speed it's about bling factor, image and class.

For them its not about how fast they go, but how they go fast.

Sounds like the only thing faster than a 996 is the money flying out of all your bank accounts.
