CRV / RAV4 Experiences please
Getting rid of the wifes Cooper S and replacing with a cheaper car and the above seem to fit our requirements at the moment.
Have read very good reviews of both cars, the CRV is more accessable as the Top of the budget is £7000.
This is a second car for the missus to carry the dog and get to work locally so a diesel is not neccessary. My car is only 2 door so the five would be nice as the 73 y/o mother in-law struggles at the moment. Very funny to watch tho.
Any thoughts.

Rav 2.0 GX
Very glad to give you our experiences:
My wife owns a 1994 2.0 GX (one of the first 3 doors registered in the UK) and it has been 100% reliable - in fact of the 30 odd cars I have owned it has been the best for reliability.
We purchased from a main dealer 3 years ago and have thoroughly enjoyed the ownership experience.
Insurance for my wife plus me (35 and 38 years old) is £255.00 per annum.
Full main dealer services + all parts guaranteed is £163.00 per annum.
Great to drive - don't get the 1.8 NV 3 door as it is bit "skittish" (front wheel drive only), the five door models are all four wheel drive.
The Rav handles and drives great - I am borrowing my wife's car for the 50 mile per commute at present (awaiting funds to buy an Impreza).
Easy to park, loads of space, good road manners, relatively cheap, and one doesn't get too much road rage/grief from other drivers.
There will be others along to say they did not have the same experience as us, but my family and a number of my parents friends have 8 Ravs between them so we mcut be happy?
There was a "facelift in 1997/98, new model in 2001 with a minor facelift in 2004/05, and a brand new version is due in 2006.
Great cars
Any more info - please ask.

Have an MY03 RAV4 diesel. Seems more or less faultless except for being rather noisy on long motorway journeys. I do like the way the rear seats recline.
Friends recently bought a new CRV as it has a bigger boot (they have 2 sprogs) and an auto version on the steering column meant no stick, hence easier access to the rear to calm the kids on long journeys.

I have considered the X-Trail but very high miles at £7000 price band. I would look into a brand new one for myself when my Golf goes back next year. Very nice motors especially the top spec and diesels. Lots of toys.
