Default The "new" Audi A8

Well, i guess it's not really that new any more but i mean the new shape that came out a year or 2 ago.

Has anyone driven one or bought one yet? What are they like to live with?

My old man has one. Great car, paddle shift, more toys and technology than you'd find in Comet, good looking, and all of the engines are great, even the oil burners.
If you can afford one, get it.
When my old man takes it to the dealers he gets special treatment, at each Audi dealership there is a specific A8 concierge type bloke who looks after you while you wait - it's funny but kind of cool.
I've driven it - not too bad - they are obviously all aluminium, which compensates a bit for the weight of all the toys, leather etc. and you can set up the suspension to loads of different modes on the MMI computer, which doubles as a TV too!

I am very, very tempted with one. Thanks for the reply.

Which model does your Dad have? Are the ownerships costs a lot higher than a Scooby?

Dunno about ownership costs. he has the 3.0 v6.
I know Audi diesels (like my A6 2.5 tdi) have an option of a long service interval (up to 30k between services i think), that saves on upkeep!!

Chris,

I'm an ex scooby driver that has discovered the 8. Great motor for the money if you want a drivers focussed lux mobile.

Get yourself over to the A8 board on tyresmoke net to get your questions answered. Running costs are about the same as a scoob.

Like all big engined saloons they depreciate like crazy but ex director/limo types would make a brilliant 2nd hand purchase.

Mate of mine bought one at auction. Never regretted it.

audi make some brilliant luxo barges. You won't regret the A8. Had a look at a W12 version, but decided on the "6" instead.

Funnily enough I followed one to work this morning - new 05 plate it had 4.0 Quattro badges on the boot........nice looking car

And Yes! - it pulled into a petrol station on the way.....LOL

secondhand, no-one apart from company car/fuel drivers can afford to run them so their value plummets. I wouldnt fancy running a 4.0 luxobarge on unleaded these days....

I quite like the though of the 4.0 or the 4.2 TDI. I think i read it does 500-600 miles to a 90 litre tank.

I really must go test driving.

I've got the 3.7 Quattro sport which I absolutely adore. Its a 40v V8. Averaged 26.4mpg over 10k I have run it as a daily driver for a 15 mile commute/traffic jam into work and then back each day. The 4.2 seems to be quite a bit thirstier from what I can gather on Tyresmoke net.

Used to get 33 mpg from my old Mondeo 2.0 Zetec which I ran for 6 months doing similar journeys.

I have so far been pleasantly surprised on the fuel bills. I think the key with the A8 is to buy one as old as you dare otherwise you will lose your shirt on depreciation. They take high mileages pretty easily provided they are properly serviced and looked after.

When I looked at buying my A8 I thought about buying new but the older cars stand up so well.
