Default £6000 car dilema

Hi all,

Have 6k to spend(no more) this is what my Golf GTtdi is worth, but I dont do any miles now so fancy a bit of fun till my 911 comes in the summer

Rules are - not expensive to run, no serious depreciation but anything else considered really........Scooby is a no no, too costly to run as is evo.

Im thinking Clio 172 cup right now, or higher mileage integra type r......

all ideas please

Andy

If you where looking for an Integra, the Accord Type-R sell a bit cheaper and I don't see them changing price anytime soon.

Integra DC2, should get a decent one for 6k now, and chances are you can sell it for 6k as well. Will not buy a better handeling car, that is as much fun at any price.

accord and integra both appealing - had an ITR before, ace cars. Mondeo will depreciate too much, finding the honda could be tricky, clio 172 cup still looking favourite

MX5 - could get a late Mk1 or early Mk2 1.8 for that kind of money. Will be fun and you could sell it in the summer and probably make a few bob...

If it has a Honda badge on it you won't go far wrong - unless of course someone sticks a Homda badge on a Rover.

For a short term fun car, that'll cost you nowt and will sell easy - I'd probably say the 172. However, it beats the Integra only on the fact it'll sell much easier.....

You could always have my Accord Type-R which will probably go up for sale in a month or so - PM me if you're interested and I'll let you have all the details.

You'll get a well sorted Corrado VR6 for sub 6k.

30+ mpg on a run, not much less when giving it some!

Get one that has had chains and tensioners done and you are laughing!

I had a Mk1 clio 172 and it was ****E. Yes it was quick ish but that's where it ended. Terrible car.

However the fact it's French doesn't generically make it ****e - the fact it's a Mk1 172 makes it ****e.

Some French cars are kick ***:

205 GTi

106 GTi/Rallye

306 GTi-6/Rallye

Saxo VTS

AX GT - I had to include this - my first car and it was an immaculate belter!! AX GT Special Edition "500". Half leather, just a few sensible mods including colour coded skirts, 14" Team dynamics wheels, lowered 30mm and a nice shiny tailbox. Loved that car. I even loved the manual choke.

it would be a mk2 clio 172 cup

I heard the build quality is a bit iffy but service intervals are long and it shouldnt cost me much to run......If I could get an ITR with less that 60k miles on the clock I would, as its also relatively inexpensive to run, but prices are quite strong on these........

I already have a 106 rallye mk1 in the garage, but its not a good everyday car.....heavy stearing due to track preped up so want something easy to live with, clio and integra both fit this.........

My folks have an H reg 1.2 Clio (bought when it was 1 year old) with a bazillion miles on the clock and the only thing to ever go wrong was the fuel pump about 7 years ago. Passes it's mot first time ever year never had a problem.

Before the stupid bint crashed into my old 19, which was 13 years old, it was in perfect nick. Even when mashed up the insurance investigator person said on the phone it was in excellent condition and gave me a bloody good price on it.

Now I've ended up with a mk1 172 (couldn't quite justify buying a scooby when the old car was mashed and was forced into buying a new car when I didn't want to) an it's been fine, no rattles or problems at all.

Although I don't care that everyone hates them, makes them cheaper to buy

If you do go for a clio I'd personally go for a cheaper mk1 172, get one for 2k less than a cup and if you're only keeping it till summer it won't lose as much. Be warned the cam belts are known to go before their interval so make sure if it's coming up to say 60k/4 years it's going ot have it done soon (not cheap from Renault).

But tbh I'd buy an old 328 or 200sx for a bit of fun

What about an E30 M3? Costs about £6k (seen two on Autotrader recently). LHD ... still one of the best cars ever aren't they? Shouldn't get any more depreciation either.
