I have owned two AH Sprites the Mk4 Sprite same as a Mk3 Midget.
One in BRG with chromed wires and a fast road engine around 120-130bhp which was a hoot and would see off a lot of hot hatches to 60. This one was my favorite.
a Pillarbox red one on wires with a std engine which was fun

Both where more of a hobby, what with the daily/weekly maintainance but great fun at any speed and i think everybody should own one for a while.

Happy days

I learnt my trade renovating old AH sprites and Midgets, the odd MGBGT and Mk 2 Jags.Everything is available for the midget,so with time and patience a real nice example can be built.
There good fun and once you have sorted out the teething troubles, there pretty reliable(if you fit electronic ignition).

EEEEEE, when i was a lad !!!

ONe of my neighbours rescued his from being a basket case and won best something or other on his first big outing to an MG OC meeting. Lovely little car. He thought I was mad when I offered to swap a drive in Scooby for a drive in his Midget though

I knew a bloke who spent well over £15K restoring his Midget Was only a rubber bumper model too

Oh, and those new Heritage replacement chassis, have worse panel gaps than the orginals

Car was better than new when finished though, and a midge restored to such a high standard is a very rare sight. I honestly struggle finding any old British classics that have had decent bodywork repairs - they all seem to have atrocious aerosol like paint work . I'm not sure if I'd pay that much to have one restored, unless I was doing it myself though (a garage restored his).

Oh yes, it would certainly have to be a car that you cherish and keep to spend that much on. If your going to enjoy it, then it's money well spent. In retrospect it is only the cost of a new midrange family shopping trolley, and it's always nice to have somthing a little different, life would be boring otherwise

Still got my 1275 Midget (1971) - great fun on narrow country roads due to being about 2/3 width of a modern car. You wouldn't want to do more than about 20 miles in it though!

Had one as my first car, loved it, replaced half the pannels and it was still full of rust two winters later. Tail happy fun cars.
