Anyone know if the method of displaying car weights over the last 20-30 years was even vaguely standardised? Eg with or without full tank of fuel, driver, etc etc.

Would love to see how the following stats compare:

1.6 Cortina, 1980:
1.6 Escort, 1990:
1.6 Fiesta, 2000:

and

1.3 Golf, 1980
1.3 Polo, 1990
1.3 Lupo, 2000 (or near enough)

Idea is to keep the engine size the same (all petrol of course), and to check the evolution over models (dunno if the above released the Mk 3 in 1989 or 1991, whatever...). I reckon they'd all be pretty similar!

So a new Lupo is heavier than an old Golf, and a new Fiesta not far off an old Cortina

I'm surprised the old cortina weighed that much. Most cars weigh alot more these days because of all the safety devices.
