Pug 106 turbo
Hi all, after a year of messing my mate around it looks like his pug 106 turbo is nearly done!!
IT was given back to him 2 months ago as he had to break it in but had more problems..... anyway cut a long story short the 'company' (pug performance i think it is) told him that it should kick out 200 bhp but it made 170bhp on the rollers so it being remapped again and again.
Yesterday they told him its pushing out 0.85 bar of boost...
is this a good figure for the 1.6 engine?
im sure theres another guy with a turbo'd 106 on this forum?

Standard they are quoted at 120bhp... So depending on how much support/strengthening work has gone into the engine, a 50bhp increase isnt too bad at all.
Unless he's spent thousands of pounds to build a strong big boost monster, in which case, 0.85bar is pretty low and I would expect with an increase it could make 200bhp.
Cheers,
Grant

Oh...
Then I'm assuming that he's had some sort of uprated stuff fitted to make it reliable rather than paying 5k for just a Turbo Kit!?
In which case the boost should be higher, but they might be running it at 0.85bar for an initial period to see if everything is holding together fine.. and the car runs alright. I have heard of some tuning companies doing this and then when the car goes back in for a re-map later on, the boost is slowly increased.
Would a standard 106 gearbox be able to cope with 200bhp and the resulting torque from the conversion??
Cheers,
Grant

Yeah its taken them 9 months of bullshi% but they built him an engine, new internals, intercooler turbo etc.... was broke-in then went back from remap but it wasnt making 'advertised' figures i.e 200 bhp... so they changed some other stuff, injectors/5th injectors.
Now its boosting to 0.85...i dont have all info, just wondering if that would be sufficient, sounds a bit low for 200 bhp thou!!

Pug Performance, aint they in Nottingham? Prima Racing/CITuning? If so, Bunch of monkeys IMO
if the internals have been changed I would guess theyve altered the compression ration to handle some more boost, if not why not? should have done for £5k worth of work. Id expect him to be running at least 1bar of boost to get 200bhp.
The quoted 170 is where, at the wheels or flywheel? 200 at the flywheel with 1bar should be possible.

Pug performance are in hampshire....
Main guy is called Colin i think. I know several people who have had their cars worked on by PP and dont rate it very much at all. Wouldnt touch them with a barge pole if i had a pug, or a citroen!!!!

I was braking driveshafts, CV's and gearboxes around 5 years ago with only 140ish bhp in a 106xsi.. Tried a few different ones too.. saxo boxes were better but still lost teeth

I've a 106gti turbo'd engine in my AX - that sees upto 1.2bar (and 227bhp at the wheels) so yes, with uprated internals and a stronger box, you can get considerably more power.
