pointless model, get the 1.8T very similar spec, better engine overall with more potential.
or get the V6 although if i had the choive between all three id still get the 1.8T
or get the 130 / 150 diesel.

Dodgy build quality imo, but a good engine.
The elec windows drop out for a past time and the doors are too heavy for the hinges

Ive heard and seen a fair few probs with them, build quality being suspect considering its a VW,and the V5 engine deciding to eat itself.
Think the MPG figure you want may be slightly optimitic too..
Just my 2p..

My wife has a 2003 V5 Bora company motor and has done 60k in less than 3 years and it has been superb. Engine very smooth, not overly fast but fast enough most of the time, lovely low down grunt. She averages around 30mpg most of the time but never more than 35 unless you are really gentle. Cruising at 100mph+ will get you very low 20s. Cruising at 130+ (in France obviously gets you mid teens!!)
Build quality has been excellent, serviced 3 times so far and absolutely nothing has gone wrong.

The V5 and the 1.8T are virtually identical in power and speed (V5 engine sounds really good too - bro-in-law had this choice and got V5!). Reason he went for the V5? In standard trim the spec levels on the V5 are far better than the 1.8T, so you get more for similar money.

Thanks for the views.
Sounds like a bit too juicy petrol wise, was expecting 35 ish at least esp if engine so torquey.May as well buy another Scoob (Wagon) if Golf 30 mpg or less.
The car I have seen does look a cracking car,and being an estate version pretty rare, with all the extras.
My wife is an aerobics instructor and needs an estate medium size but with a good image.
HDI 130 Golf estates as rare as anything.

Currently she drives Renault Scenic 1.9 turbo diesel, could be for sale soon if I find a suitable alternative.S reg 100,000 miles, CIRCA £2500.00

As ScoobyJawa said, I had a 51 plate V5 for four years. Great spec levels, decent enough performance from a great sounding engine (mine was the 170b brake), but you lot have got to be kidding about the mpg, right? Unless I was on a motorway trundle I was averaging about 27mpg, and it got worse if you put yer clog down (tho not by much).
Handling tho was, ummm...rolly! And understeery. Not much feel. Quite tyre sensitive too. OEM Pirelli P6000s were ok, then had Pilot Sports fitted (company car, that was their preffered tyre) and it squealed like a tw@t even under light cornering! Insisted on P6000s after that!! I now have a diseasel estate Focus and cannot believe the difference in steering/handling.
Reliablitly wasn't that brill either. I had the famed coil pack problem three times; a thermostat went twice with the upshot thatthe car thought it was -50 deg C outside and that full on heating was the solution and summat else went twice that meant the fan didn't kick in so it over-heated.
